Are all roofs created equal?
I'm thinking about getting a roof without a sunroof as I never really use mine, the alpine window seals look shot and I want to fit a MUD roof console: https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/mud-st...nsole.html

Are there any variations between Tdi/Td5/Puma...etc I should be aware of before I start searching? 1993 200 Tdi 90 CSW

All Defender roofs will fit, sometimes a little bit of effort is needed I have replaced roofs where a few of the bolt holes have not lined up so the odd new hole had to be drilled, but in the whole, all pressing dimension wise are the same from 1984 to the last model. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

All the same, but not!

Ribbed roof early
Smooth roof maybe started fitting in 1989
Pressed ribbed roof and recessed alpine window openings 03ish on

Some roof side panels have vertical stiffeners some have horizontal.

IIRC they are meant to be lighter than the previous two roof designs and the pressed ribs stop the metal from flexing and thrumming at speed.

LAter roofs on Station Wagons are higher due to the new seats.

No, they're not Confused The roof on a Puma with the raised ribs is exactly the same as on the previous TD5. Darren

The SW with forward facing seats has a higher roof. My old Td5 with side facing seats was lower than my current 110 with forward facing. You can see it's higher at the back. Front is the same.

Sorry, but you're mistaken. The Puma rear seats are let into the wheel arches to accommodate them. The roofs are exactly the same as later TD5's and the same general dimensions as all previous models.

Any difference that you've noted will be down to tyres or suspension. Darren

Every roof on a Defender I have worked with has been the same with the exception as already mentioned ribs on early and some late models, however, dimension wise they are exactly the same. I have no idea why the roof mentioned by AMBxx is any different but its a Defender Laughing so anything is possible. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Well unless we count commercial Defenders in the South of Ireland that had raised rear roofs to bet export and tax laws Rolling with laughter

I would have gladly paid the tax. That really does not look nice.
