Removing VGS privacy glass
Going to attempt to remove the privacy glass next weekend, want to go back to the standard look, adding in gullwings.

Any thoughts about getting to bonding glue off the paintwork underneath? Not sure I can get it all off without damaging the paintwork.

I’m sure the four panels will all come off without breaking them, if so, anyone want them?

Thanks

Mark

It's probably easier to buy some used side/rear panels then swap those over. The VGS glass will be worth more if it's pre fitted to panels.

Exactly what I was thinking. Must be possible but no idea how, I guess some sort of debonding substance? James

I'm kind of keen on the panoramic glass. Functionally I think it will be much better than my old windows - quieter, drier, more secure. I'm less convinced so far on the potential appearance on my faded old car.

But, I'd decided that what zsd-puma has suggested will be my approach if I do go there - a set of replacement side panels for the glass, while hanging on to the originals. Donald

When I got mine, a black 2010 defender, it looked cool, last winter. However, after just returning from a 3K trip through Croatia, Italy and France, in 30 deg heat, it's not practical. there is zero air circulation in the back, even with the front windows both down, having access to the rear is a pain, so for me, going to gullwings is the way I'm going to get better access, and to crack them open to get air in the rear. Also, it looks like a hard top.

Advantages, yes, there is privacy, yes there is security, can't see in, and it does makes the lines look cleaner, in appearance.

But, to me, the classic Defender has side windows, rear qtr windows and it's looking like lipstick on a pig.

that is way too much effort, to source new sides and rears, and remove everything. It's easier to take it in to a bodyshop and have them remove them, and then get the bonding off, IMHO.
