Sill Foam Seal Alternative
While getting on with the water ingress, I've noticed that the foam seal between the sill and floor is in a sorry state and has even completely fallen out in some areas.
The LR part is ALR6368.
The local stealers is ZAR165 ex vat per side Shocked
I can purchase generic adhesive foam weather strips for less than half that amount and will have leftover for future use.

Is the foam really needed or better to just leave it as is and let it all eventually fall out?
Will the generic foam work or is the LR stuff a 'special' foam?
Is there a better alternative to use (ie: butyl rubber strip, silicone, etc.)?
Thanks in advance Thumbs Up Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

mine also fell out. I purchased some foam strip online (woolies trim) and cut it to size, a bit to thick but did the job well. 1953 80"

Do they all have this foam strip? I’ve had several defenders and never noticed this on any of them.

Don’t think I ever remember mine having any form of seal there, it’s currently full of stones and dirt Embarassed

Mine doesn't have it, nor any indication that it ever did! Just some stones/mud stuck in the gap...

When I get round to tree sliders I'll clean it out Laughing

Ok, so does not look like a major issue.
I'll not be in a huge rush to replace, but the foam does then keep dirt out.

When mine fell out I replaced it with self adhesive closed cell neoprene from eBay, it's been there for a few years and works fine 2005 Td5 110 Hardtop
