Did you notice anything wrong with the gearbox?

It's always been notchy/snatchy but it's a Defender so assumed it was okay.
Clearly it's not. TBH I'm almost certain it'll be a warranty (it's a LR AUC truck) but still a slight worry. Parts been ordered - well over £2k fitted. Plus the handbrake and vents issue (also warranty jobs)! Eeeek! Should be done mid next week. They did give it a heck of a good clean though I went in rather heavy handed then calmed down a bit - I think they realise I'll be an awkward sod if things aren't done to my satisfaction. One skill I do have is getting things sorted when they go wrong. Probably had £1000s in "free" warranty/returns stuff over the years. All legit but all took a bit of cunningness. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Just out of interest Mick, which dealer do you use for service/warranty work?

Hope they get it sorted for you.
How many miles has it done and what is an LR AUK truck? If it's a 2007 model does the warranty extend over the 3 years for this type of problem? |

Zagato - bought it five months ago on 37k miles. It's a September 2007 build. All serviced on time at Harwoods nr Croydon.
Now on 40k miles - none have been hard. TBH I reckon it was an issue when we bought it so if for some reason the warranty was not enough, I'd be onto the dealer pronto. The previous owner was a roofer so it possibly towed heavy loads quite often? Certainly no signs of heavy (or in fact ANY) off road use and it was from Croydon - where there isn't any off roading to be done!! LR AUC is Land Rover Approved Used (usually the term AUC is used) it was out of the 3 year LR warranty but this is 95% as comprehensive and last a year - I may well extend it! - the full conditions are here: http://www.usedvehicles.landrover.co.uk/fe...hicPromo_3 - not that you need it! I cannot see LR having a leg to stand on in trying to turn it down. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now - Riders Truro handled it pretty well in my opinion seeing as they didn't sell me this 110. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Well they checked it and decided the gearbox was okay after all. New clutch, sorted the vent blower and handbrake. All FOC. Will keep a close eye on the gearbox. Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion.
