I suppose you have to ask yourself why you want it?
I'm going to assume that doing an early Td5 conversion is probably around the same cost and something you should consider. Td5 Std: 136 bhp 232 lbf ft HS 2.8: 135 bhp 277 lbf⋅ft It's fair to assume that only a partial conversion will yeild similar torque and less bhp/tuning potential. Those TD5 specs are for the Discovery II. In the Defender, it was about 10% less powerful. Darren

I had this dilemma when I rebuilt my 300tdi. In the end I kept the 300tdi bottom end, used a new Turners ‘performance’ head, BAS VGT turbo, Allisport intercooler and then tuned it to match these improvements. Never had it on a dyno but it pulls like a train with lots of torque and very smooth delivery.
It still cost a lot to do this and in hindsight when you look at £/BHP then maybe there are other ways to achieve the same or better, but I am happy with it. |
