I seem to recall that the flash function works with no key in the ignition.

The flash on mine definitely works without the key.

sounds like there a issue with your stalk yes they flash high beam with no key but should not stay illuminated . I am not sure if they can be stripped down to clean a good spray with wd40 may help

thanks for replies i have ordered a new stalk and see if that solves the problem. what i couldnt fathom was the random switching on and off when the vehicle was parked. I shouldnt be at all surprised to find an earwig or spider living in there!

Did you check the headlight relay that activates the headlights only if the contact is on?

My guess is a contacts on the stalk is slightly contacting one another, possibly slightly bent or similar event.
Never knew that the flash worked with ignition off.  ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

Until the new switch arrives leave the switch in the "main" position while parked.
This will put a larger air gap between the "flash" contacts. Cheers, Kyle. |

SOLVED!
when i opened the steering column console up to replace the indicator stalk i was greeted with a cloud of smoke. one of the wires from one of the stalks in there was routed across the switch block for the main light stalk. All the wires exiting this switch block do so via a brass post to which the insulated wires are soldered. The posts are not insulated and are sharp enough to wear away the insulation on any wire that decides to sit above it. I made sure the wires were cable tied away from this switch block but it does seem remiss of land rover not to have put an insulated cover over this block. hope this helps anyone with similar issue. |
