I take it you mean the frc2310 the circular plate that rust's and bends slightly. Either way IMHO it's not the end of the world to leave it off. In fact on a CV job last week I junked it as it had almost rusted through, and had actually started to effect the stub axle by having holding the crud next to it. Yep thatâs the one. Itâs a mud shield apparently. Acts as a washer too, but as I loctited all the bolts I am not. Too worried.

It protects the inner seal and bearings on the hub I would fit it. How would you feel if you paid a garage to repair it and they left it out?

You are technically correct nick on that. In my findings it does naff all in stopping it getting in there and soon working it's way past the seals. if you are commonly in the cack all the time. It all but barely extends past the stub axle and there is still a fair gap to the hub.

![]() Click image to enlarge Wheel bearing failed - rounded the stubaxle and nut to dust, the wheel snapped the disk from the hub, then the wheel came free and wedged itself in the front of the arch. so did this one in the middle of the field. ![]() |
