Rear fog light control circuit
Hi. anyone know if the rear foglight control circuit is a simple one shot relay somewhere under the dash or if it forms part of the main ECU circuit?
Thanks Thumbs Up 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

Under the drivers seat there is a Fog lamp control unit. It usually says so on the label.

Thanks all. I managed to source one of these ecu relays on eBay. Using it for a project to control usb power in the 90 using a modified LR switch

What have you got planned, Vitesse? If you use the right switch, it shouldn't be necessary to modify anything to operate one of these relays. Darren

Hi. Going to use a modified momentary switch with a sort of custom front cover and graphic. The idea is that the usb can be switched on by the passenger but when the engine is stopped then it all powers down. I don’t want the usb quiescent current running all the time So the ecu fog light relay is ideal for this task. It’s a bit of a project and possibly overkill. :c Very Happy 2015 90 XS Santorini Black

Not overkill at all! I'm using exactly the same principal to control my rear work lights except that the power feed is interrupted via a changeover relay when the brake pedal is pressed, so I can't drive off and leave them on. The standard fog light switch is, of course, ideally suited to triggering the relay.

How do you plan to change the graphic on the switch? It's something I'm working on but my first attempt wasn't brilliant and I'm looking for alternative ideas. Darren

Like your idea on the rear light. 👍 The graphics for the switch is work in progress. I am in touch with a company that does automotive switch etching. Hoping to get something that way. Have already got the blanks made from old switches but you can use the standard blank covers. Just need to drill a hole if an indicator is required and fit the prism. In the mean time I have modified a discovery 2 fuel filler switch cover. The picture looks a bit like an iPod with a wire coming off it. That will do for now Very Happy The end result will Be wording such as USB or 5 volt. Mud uk now sell some bespoke covers but not for what I need. .... yet! More to follow! I'd be really interested to know how you get on with the etching as I've got a whole load of switches I'd like done. Darren

The etching is relatively simple, just need a mate with a laser/CO2 engraver.
I've had some done, the trick was to do some test runs on an old switch cover to get the alignment & depth spot-on.

Can post some templates I've already made if needed? Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.
