I think these were standard fitment for the later models (it's what mine has anyway) and don't offend me, but each to their own

The Alpine's were the optional factory upgrade kit.
One of these is probably the nearest you'll get to the basic standard radio, unless you get a second hand Becker or something. Have a look at the DOHA 112 BT https://www.blaupunkt.com/en/nc/products/c...gle/15922/ It's easier to find plain looking double DIN touchscreen units than plain looking single DIN ones. |

I also find the standard Alpine Carman speaks of is non-offensive to look at, but I appreciate what you say about a lot of head units look like a 1970's school disco.
I personally don't find the Alpine particularly user friendly. Unless anyone can tell me otherwise, I have never found an off switch. The only way I have found to turn it off is to remove the fascia. The controls I find fiddely and not very intuitive. Or maybe I am just getting old....... Obviously, just my opinion. Others may think otherwise. And please tell me if there is an on-off button. I'm not great reading instruction manuals. |

Press and hold the big green button for several seconds. As you say though, not very user friendly. Darren

I have just bought one of these for my Range Rover Classic, I wanted to keep the standard cassette player but have Bluetooth functionality. Works a treat

That made me laugh - and feel better! I had a late Defender on loan for a few days ........ couldn't figure out how to switch off the radio. It started with a kiss, never thought it would come to this. SIII CSW Safari, limestone, (JAC 914N). Where is she now? It's not a car, it's a way of life! |

I had a Sony where the off switch wasn't obvious either. Most modern ones seem to form over function The OEM look isn't popular amongst the boy racers I presume, so few manufacturers make standard looking ones.

I installed a Becker Cascade Pro in my last van; very discreet single din with nav (no pop-out screen), bluetooth, super sound quality and you could match the backlighting colour. Not retro but certainly fitted the look of the dash.
Really nice bit of kit - still available on eBay occasionally - should have taken it out before I sold the van......
