What is the best ones to go for? I am toying with three types, an Alu one, a standard one and an army one
the place the did the mot recon I should go for a standard one, But my 306 has an alu one which is nearly 20 years old.
not sure what a military one is like or any different. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

On the pre WOLF diesels, the radiator was the same as the standard civilian spec item

The plastic/aluminium is rubbish, I was looking for a leak and in pulling the top hose to see if it was that, broke the whole flange off, the plastic tore down like wet paper. Took it back to the Green box supplier, who shrugged and I got a small discount on the copper one.

recently replaced my 'transparent' rad, presumably 20 years old, with a Bearmach copper sided one, from Island 4x4, good price, very quick delivery.

I have had a fully aluminium rad on my 300tdi Defender for the last 3 years and it still looks like new and performs well. No overheating issues at all, if anything it seems to help it run cooler.

I got it on eBay for £120 - it is a made in China job, but the welding all seems good and it’s a solid item, three years on no issues, so I am happy.

I did the same as Alex above - no problems. As for replacing other parts, I wouldn't touch anything unless you are having any sort of overheating issues or if your P-gasket is showing signs of leaking. I would refill with fresh water and antifreeze if the old coolant looks murky as you wouldn't want to gum up that shiny new rad straight away Thumbs Up Matt.

I am looking at flushing the system through, as I do have some sort of crap in the expansion tank. I hope to Christ its not signs of Head gasket failure, looks like the same as I rover metro. Shocked Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

I managed to bell my local parts discount and he said they maybe able to get it re vamped again.
My local auto rad place shut down about 15 years ago, the place is flattened and a block of flats are on there now. Sunderland is a bit of a dive with this sort of thing, not sure if even newcastle has a place now either! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
