An unusual sequence of events has resulted in me having a week to myself this summer! My darling wife has taken our children to see Mickey Mouse over in Florida and so it seemed rude not to load up the Oztent and head off to Wales.
The plan is to depart early o'clock tomorrow morning and drive nearly 300 miles north to a campsite where I'll base myself for the first half of the week. As I'm on my own, I'll have my anorak zipped right up to my chin and destinations will include Clywedog dam, Gwyn Lewis 4x4 and Red Wharf Bay. Oh, and I'll be camped right alongside a preserved railway Later in the week, I'll be heading south again to meet up with friends at the Great Dorset Steam Fair. Wave if you see me Click image to enlarge Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Enjoy your trip.
BTW, the case box on top - I assume thats for the Oztent - is it the original Oztent coffin or something you had made up? |

Thanks, chaps. It's all going to plan, so far
It's the genuine Ozpod, which I've had for years. Unfortunately, I don't think they're available anymore. So, after an early start and a brief non-LR related stop en-route, I made it to Clywedog dam just before lunch time: Click image to enlarge Unfortunately, this was as close as I could get the Land Rover but it was still nice to see: Click image to enlarge I even wrote to Severn Trent Water to see if I could get permission to drive closer, but I didn't get a reply. They probably thought I was mad Next stop, after a very cross-country route dictated by the sat nav, was Gwyn Lewis 4x4: Click image to enlarge I'd ordered several bits for future projects and this trip gave me the excuse to collect them rather than pay for postage. Gwyn is a really nice guy and we spent a few minutes putting the world to rights on the quality of powder coatings I'm now camped by Carrog station on the Llangollen Railway and dinner was accompanied by the sight and sounds of steam trains, which is very pleasant Tomorrow, Red Wharf Bay... It's weird seeing someone else visit my neck of the woods for once! I was at Gwyns not long ago!

Another day trolling around North Wales began with a pilgrimage to Red Wharf Bay:
Click image to enlarge It was nice to see but was also blustery and a to park. Whilst on Anglesey, I squeezed in visits to a couple of other notable places: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I made a deliberate detour to drive over the bridge on the way out again, just for the fun of it. From there, I headed to Snowdonia and Llanberis Pass. Unfortunately, they were a to photograph as all of the decent stopping places were full of cars. Bloody tourists I did manage to take a couple of snaps but all they really show is the foreboding sky. Snowdon itself was completely hidden behind a wall of cloud Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Whilst in Llanberis, I paid a visit to 'Electric Mountain', Dinorwig hydro power station, which is a truly magnificent feat of heavy engineering. I remember its' opening being featured on Blue Peter when I was a child. No photo's though as cameras were not permitted Darren 110 USW BUILD THREAD - EXPEDITION TRAILER - 200tdi 90 BUILD THREAD - SANKEY TRAILER - IG@landroveranorak "You came in that thing? Thanks😀
The 90 (and a VW Polo) were sold were sold in favour of the 110 when I decided that I really wanted a LR as a daily driver again.
