Click image to enlarge Removing the switch dis-cornet plug set multi meter to ohms, one probe too orange red wire plug pin and the other one too black wire plug pin on the plug needs to read open cct Meg ohms i.e. high res to be OK repeat for orange blue and black wire if reads closed cct ( 000 ohms i.e. low res ) you have short to earth in the wire from the switch to the door pillar plug |

Our 90 did the same, it was the door loom. Stripped it back and replaced all the wires

As above the wires in the rubber boot between the door and pillar will have snapped. Ray

Thanks for all the tips, I narrowed it down to the Orange/Grey wire going between the fuse and the switch
I didn't actually manage to find out where exactly though. I don't know what I did but after all man handling of the wires and the fuse box it all seems to be up and running normally again I'm guessing it was either a dodgy connection at the switch or fuse end. I would have liked to have known for sure but I'm going to cut my losses and just be thankful its working again.... for now |

You've likely moved the wire from being shorted out, it might be okay for now but don't be surprised if it happens again.
It really needs tracing. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

I'm sure you're right, when I have more time I'll have to have a better look and try and fix it once and for all

and that would have next to check and of cores the switch its self ( find your problem wiring as i had to repair dash loom on defender if it had been left much longer hold thing would court on fire) |
