Hi Martin, I'm probably quite a bit late to the party on this but do you still have that "late type sensor"? My GKN O/D stopped working recently, I've checked it out and found the speed sensor is open circuit, (I would expect a resistance of about 300 ohms or so,) it's the later 16mm thread type so the RS one wouldn't fit and Devon 4x4 don't appear to list it anymore, only a kit to bypass the controller, I'd rather keep it intact if possible. So if you still have it and would be willing to part with it for a reasonable fee, I'd be happy to take it off you. |

Dear Martin,
I new on the forum, just subscribed from France, as I can see you may have an available speed sensor for GKN overdrive. My sensor just failed and I am looking for a spare. I you are ok to sell it, please let me know. Regards, Guillaume. |

Hi Guillaume
My comment on the thread, just above, was in response to a much earlier comment (in 2014) by hxk494, I didn't hear back so I set about finding another solution. I eventually found a sensor with approximately the right dimensions from a Ford Focus that was being scrapped, I think it was a cam position sensor, but they're mostly pretty much the same inside, I had to remove the old GKN sensors inner parts from its outer threaded sleeve and ream the inside out by about 1mm or so to accommodate the plastic body of the replacement unit, this was then fixed in place with epoxy resin with the outer face flush with the bottom. it now works perfectly |

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. That confirms I should be able to use a standard inductive sensor. Standard sensor are available with M12 and M18 thread but not with M16x1.5 as the original GKN one. However, it should be possible to use an M12 sensor with a thread adaptor M16 to M12. Sould works. Thanks for your help. Guillaume |

As you say, it should work, just be careful though that you measure and set it to the correct depth, it needs to be very close to the wheel inside but obviously not touching. |

Not much to say really, appears to be a common part, looks like this -
https://www.banggood.com/Crankshaft-Positi...5852.html? I had already removed the original sensor from the overdrive and removed the guts of it leaving essentially a threaded metal tube with a hex nut half way up. The replacement (Ford) sensor was slightly larger in diameter than the hole in the tube so I had to ream the tube out slightly to get it to fit, the result was as below - Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |
