Strang,....GREAT set of pics, probably the best I've seen to demonstrate a real long time love of, and relationship with, one's vehicle. I reckon it'll be with you for ever.

I thought I had lost the attached letter - from back in the day when you could write to the factory for vehicle details, rather than having to fork out for a Heritage Certificate from Gaydon, but have just come across it again. They also sent me a copy from the ledger of the build date etc - note that they managed to mess up the chassis number sequence! Its also interesting to see how much time some vehicles spent in the factory if you compare IN and OUT dates.

What are the details on the series? Engine gearboxetc. Looks like you have taken it on some fantastic trips over the years. Would like to get my V8 series to a reliable state that I could take it on some big trips but I’m most likely to just take the 90 instead

It was originally a 2 litre diesel - so quite rare in a way. I decided to rebuild it some years ago as the chassis was always needing to be welded come MOT time (its exempt now) and was also twisted. I had lots of issues with 2 litre diesel engines, and had a few spares, but the weak spot is the wet liners that they use - and they are also a bit of the slow side.
Whilst I was rebuilding it, I bought a cheap petrol series 2, and started to go on trips abroad with mates, mainly to other 'series' events in Switzerland and the Czech Republic for example. I quickly realised that I would struggle on the long motorway journeys in Europe, so as I wanted to be able to use my series one, I fitted a 200Tdi engine. It is still running with its original gear box and already had an overdrive which helps with long journeys, and lately I have fitted a Zeus disc brake conversion. So now it can keep up with traffic, and stop in a straight line! The only other upgrade that would be useful would be faster wipers, as I remember one trip on a 5 lane autobahn near Frankfurt where it was raining heavily, and although I could keep up with traffic, and stop quickly, I couldn't see very well due to the spray and the original old Lucas wiper motors! I don't have any plans to change them though. I don't know if you have ever seen any of Steve Patchett's videos of his trips abroad in an 80" series one - great films, and will give you an idea of what they are capable of. Yer I love the team faff videos and it does inspire me to keep my series and try and use it more. Problem is most friends are defender drivers and it’s just easier to take my 90. I need some like minded travellers who don’t mind the slower pace and more of a challenge to get.
I thought yours may of had an upgrade |

^^^ Thanks - same campsite ( https://www.barborakemp.cz/ ), another time and a different beer. This one was actually produced for the Birmabright Weekend, an annual event for Series Land Rovers usually located in Kutna Hora in the Czech Republic.
