Soon to be owner - Cubby Box question
Hi everyone!
I pick up a 2007 defender 90 in a few weeks and I have my first question.

It currently does not have a cubby box, but there is space.

As I love to rest my left arm, do you know where I can buy one and are they easy to fit?

Thanks in advance Stuart!

Yes, easy to fit. Assuming yours has a 'tray', whip out the four screws, lift out, replace with cubby of choice and replace screws. Normally!!

AS for types, there are many. Basic LR spec (or OEM versions), with no lock, no padding etc, right up to fully quilted, lined, with lockable padded lid. Can be made from ply or metal. All major parts suppliers do them. Padded lid seems to be a minimum 'want' for those modding their already fitted boxes, so perhaps Google 'Padded Defender Cubby UK', click images, see which you like the look of follow the link? Exmoor Trim usually a solid bet for this sort of thing with large selection of boxes, lids and covering (real leather, fake leather, vinyl etc).

That's my two-pennies worth. If you need any questions on more techie stuff, such as wiring looms, don't ask me Rolling with laughter Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

I found that the standard cubby box is a bit low to rest your arm on so I removed the lid on mine, made an extension out of 12mm plywood to suit my elbow height and refitted the lid. Perfect. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

That looks great!......and it's now large enough to store a small child Rolling with laughter ........I personally would go with a under cubby safe and a locked cubby on top! Google is your feind as the options are in the hundreds!.....I am surprised by the poor response to the OP request as normally you would many photos of different boxes in situ from our friendly bretherin on here.......?i have until recently not been on here for a few months and I have noticed a change in the responses .......have folk moved on?(this ibit is for the old timers still left)

I find for me the extra padding on the Exmoor trim premium cubby to be about right as a comfy elbow rest. Thumbs Up Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

I have a genuine Land Rover one from an XS that needs a lid but is otherwise in nice shape. Let me know if you’re interested.

Thanks everyone!

I collect it next Friday, so am busy writing a list of things to do and things to buy.

Will be driving up to Scotland in it in a few weeks, which will be fun as my last 2 cars have been Range Rovers. I need to remember what to do the that gear stick thingy and the third pedal Very Happy
