Headlight / sidelight issue

checked over the lights on my 02 MY Defender today, All was well until I turned on the headlights, the headlights came on ok but all the sidelights / tail lights went off, turn off the headlights and all the side / tail lights came back on, any ideas before I start digging?

Almost certainly the switch. They're notorious for overheating and the contacts moving as a result of the plastic melting. Darren
