It would probably be injector seals blowing a bit,
Have you ever changed them? 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I started doing some at work this afternoon, I had a 2010 90 come in with the injector clamp loose on 3-4,
They had driven it a good 20 miles to get back home! It’s the first one I’ve seen where the injector tip has swollen due to the ecu over fuelling that cylinder, this then causes the tip to overheat. This is also a problem if you run water in the fuel, it can go through the injector and “hydraulic” in the tip, I’ve got a new injector coming in the morning, as you can’t fit the copper washer over the end, It was cheaper to fit a new one, than get it repaired. £159 for a new Denso one. Change your copper washers, O rings, and get some new clamp bolts, Look at the rocker seals to see if you have oil sitting around the injectors, if so replace those as well. A slightly swollen tip! And you cant really get them repaired. No one in the UK is fully equipped to test or rebuild them. Some can fit new tips, but they still don't have the correct tools to do more than a basic function test - ie they can only pump fuel through them and see if it sprays out. Not test the correct amount of fuel is dispensed etc. Unlike Bosch and Delphi injectors have plenty of people able to refurbish them. Are the Copper washers still insanely priced from Land Rover? Just under £20 each?! You can get them for about £1 each from most injection specialists or about £7 each from Citroen dealers and £8 each from Ford dealers. |

They do drive surprisingly well even with loose injectors, you only notice how bad they were once they're fixed. However I would start with the basics, when you say fumes from the filler, is that with the cap fitted? ie is the oil filler cap sealing properly? |

is it simply the oil filler seal has gone hard with time and letting oil pass?
