It does seem that it depends entirely who you land on as to whether they can be bothered to lift a finger. Glad you’ve had a better service, fingers crossed they sort it all out

I think that it helped that I have uploaded the (non-JLR) service history into OSH. The service advisor was good though; she knew that the water ingress work would mean them keeping it for a week and where the main trouble spots were for corrosion, pointing out that these did not need to be fixed within 3 years because the corrosion warranty was longer. Said she's seen worse!
My backup plan was to take it to a JLR-approved service centre (Lindacre) but I really wanted a LR replacement vehicle for the ~2 weeks they will have it. |

I tried getting the paintwork inspected at Marshalls Ipswich and was told they don't have a paint shop I'd have to go to Cambridge.
Their sales staff have always been very nice though.[/b] James MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |

The paint will be done in Cambridge or Norwich. Lindacre get their paint done somewhere in Norwich too.

JLR Ipswich phoned back yesterday to let me know that all the paintwork had been approved, except for the NAS step and wheels which were not original fitment. No complaints.

Good to hear! Now let's hope they do a good job! I'd be interested to hear who actually does the work? James

Handed it over today and added a new oil leak to the list of things to be mended.
We have a Disco Sport HSE Dynamic Luxury for the next couple of weeks...missing the Defender already. My wife seems intent to use my Series 2 whenever she doesn't need to go too far or in a great hurry. |

The Discovery Sport had to go back. They put me in this with just 19 miles on it

Very nice! Or is it not? These have grown on me greatly, what's your view? James

It's really nice. Have only just driven back home from Marshalls this morning but first impressions are very positive. Even with the 2.0 litre diesel which somehow seems less intrusive than it was in the Disco Sport. I've got a 200 mile/day allowance on it so will give it a good test while the Defender is off to Norwich for paint.
The Disco Sport was horrible. Terrible ride on 20" wheels, noisy and with too much obtrusive tech crap crammed in. I think it was a £52K vehicle and anyone spending that kind of money on it needed their bumps felt. |

I would think the body work is done by these people:- http://www.the-bodycentre.co.uk Well that is who Hunters / Inchcape use as an approved JLR body shop. I am afraid I didn’t even find the sales Staff at Marshall’s Cambridge pleasant when I was buying my Defender. They were completely uninterested. I travelled from Norwich to view a 110 SW they had advertised on the forecourt. Got told it was already sold, but here are the keys, you can go and have a look at it ![]() Glad I hadn’t bought it. They didn’t even bother coming out of the showroom. They took my details and said if anything came up they would contact me. I never heard anymore. Bizarrely, the 110 was still advertised for a few weeks after I viewed it. It’s not even as if they were busy. I was the only one there. I ended up at Hunters (now Inchcape) King’s Lynn. It’s a very small dealership but I have never had any issues with any of the Staff and they always seem happy to see a Defender back in their yard. |

Have been out and about in it over the weekend. Damn thing is really good, to the point where I have resisted going into the dealership to talk about the cost the change in case it is attractive. It's a lovely thing to cruise around in. The SD4 diesel has really surprised me; it has more than enough grunt to haul the enormous thing round at a good pace without needing more than an inch of throttle. The engine and gearbox work really well. I have noticed a little diesel rumble between 50-60mph when it's in a higher gear and you wish the accelerate but otherwise it is very well isolated. The ride is firmer than I expected. It is absolutely massive and feels wide on the back roads around here. I am conscious that it isn't mine though and trying not to scratch or scuff it. The steering is very precise and it's easy to position it though. Great visibility. I am wondering if the SE spec isn't the sweetspot in the range rather than the HSE. The one we have is an HSE and it's lovely but the tech feels a generation behind and interior quality is not the best. The SE has leather, navigation, LED lights etc and all the inherent capability of air suspension and terrain response. |

Thanks Rasher, although I believe Marshalls either have their own body shop in Cambridge or one close by as I was told it would have to go to Cambridge.
Milesr3 nice to hear good things about the D5. I can't deny I would love one if someone else was paying for it! I would be more than surprised if Marshall’s haven’t got a body shop in Cambridge. They have a number of dealerships as well as JLR so they must be able to generate a fair amount of work.
