Thanks HardCharger I think the defenderupgrades Reversing Camera kit could well be the right one for me.

I had one of these in my Amarok for the exact same reason - hitching up.
https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/WIRELESS-CAR-BUS-...Sw95lbITjW took me about an hour to fit and the picture was excellent. Obviously not fantastic in the dark but I think with decent reversing lights it would be useable. the screen looked a bit intrusive to start as it's a bit bigger than the rear view mirror but I soon forgot about it. had mine wired to the 12v socket so it was live with the engine which meant it doubled up as a rear view mirror as the original was useless through the truckman cab anyway Click image to enlarge |

Oh, it didn't look that big in the photo, it looked normal.
If you don't really use your sun visors then it's a no issue. If you do, however, then you'll either have to figure something out or make compromises. I read of someone who trimmed his visors because it did not fit his overhead console or something. So it kinda depends on how far you're willing to go or how creative you can get. |

I have seen one fitted and it worked very well but there was a lot of work in getting the kit to fit OME style ,the fixing to the original roof mounting had to be custom made and both sun visor's had to be cut down which is a lot of work I did not want to get involve with.

Hi legin
Was good to meet you the other week in Kent! Think this is what you are referring to, sorry the photos are not that good. Yes it works well but was a lot of effort to get it to look right, The usual when you change one thing you ending up having to change three others! Hi Yes it was nice to meet up and I'm afraid it was your defender that put me off I could see the very hard work and thought that had gone in to making it look OME and you carried it off ,looking over your 90 I could see this was some thing you where into as all your mods fitted like OME .

I'm curious, how did you re-upholstered the visors? Or did you change them out for other kinds of visors?

Hi legin
Thank you and as I think I told you it’s a product of having a little too much spare time! HardCharger They are the original factory sun visors but I had them modified to fit by a trimmer. |

Just fitted a fleabay special to my 2012 110 USW for under £30. Does what it says on the tin!! Picture not brilliant but entirely acceptable to see what's behind when parking or hooking up to trailor/caravan.
No drilling required for camera. I used two unused threaded holes in rear cross-member above towbar, made a bracket out of angled aluminium and bolted it to cross-member then bolted camera to bracket. Camera powered from reversing light. Central position ideal for aligning with trailer etc. Small screen mounted in gap above rear view mirror thereby not interfering with drivers view of road. (Other mirror mounted screens are relatively large and obscure some of drivers view.) Screen permanantly wired to fuse box under steering wheel via A pillar with a piggy-back fuse holder. Video cable run along off-side of roof lining to A pillar and then above sun-shade to screen. Thanks for the info Def90. Another "solution" that I thought of for this is to install the MUD roof console thing with the shelves. The relocation of certain items may make it possible to use the bigger mirror. For those who have either, what would you think? |
