This can be one of these "popcorn" topics...
I'm with you in the sense that I'd rather have something UK road legal. If you use your lights responsibly, then the likelihood of ever being pulled over or spoken to about lighting is minimal, but it's peace of mind. So for my distance LED spots, and my rooftop LED bars I made sure to get stuff with proper E markings. Headlights - I haven't done that yet ( so not directly answering your question!) for two reasons. The main one is to do with driving in snow - more of an issue where I am - the standard lights are bad enough for clogging up. LEDs which run cooler would be worse. When someone brings LED lights to the UK/EU market with heated lenses I'll be very keen, though I'd likely wait a couple of years for the price to drop from 'eye watering' to merely 'painful'. The second reason is that I fitted one of the 'Landreiziger' or 'boomslang' headlamp looms, taking the power direct from the alternator and bypassing the steering column switch and the rest of the 24 year old wiring. This gives +13v at the lights instead of the 11v or so I was getting before - and the improvments to the output of the standard halogens was quite remarkable. This may/may not be relevant to your car. Just some thoughts for whatever they're worth. (PS - I fitted the RDX kit too, and I'm really happy with that) Donald 1994 Defender 300Tdi 110 SW - owned since 2002 - 230k miles and going strong (The 'rolling restoration' or tinkering thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic58538.html ) 2000 Range Rover P38 4.0L V8 in the past.. RR classic - fitted with 200Tdi 1984 RR classic - V8 with ZF auto box 1993 Discovery 300Tdi not to mention the minis and the Type 2 VW camper... |

I have the Nolden Gen 1 with pinion light and loom. Superb!
I'd go for the Gen 2 if needed, hopefully not any time soon! If I was you I'd fit Wipac Crystal, H4 upgrade bulbs and a Land Reiziger loom. Very good output for a lower budget temporarily. (I've been there!) Then save over longer term for the Nolden, personally I'd only consider JW or Nolden the latter is my favourite but each to his own and I've never heard of a single problem. I have the RDX LED light kit, again been excellent not one single issue ever. I'd recommend the RDX LED Relay too! These are all 'E' marked and road legal. (Should be BSI in my book. ) The number plate light, go for the Wipac with SMD chip LED's in it. Others are not good at all. Again no problem with mine at all. My 90 is using ALL LED on everything now inc light bars interior lights etc. Perhaps you can tender an upgrade as a Christmas / birthday gift if you feel that it needs or be justified. It also isn't a bad idea to security mark them either, thieves never know what they might have to deal with this way. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |

I've got the Truck Lite Gen2s from Brendan and am very happy with them (performance and looks exceeded expectations and price point lower than the big name alternatives).

Yes, be very careful regarding the IP ratings.
Putting output aside, moisture ingress is one of the root problems and was with I believe early Gen JW Speakers. (Anyone correct me if I'm wrong?) The choice really is yours. I have colours on the rear Clear at the front XS style and black Nolden. Don't forget side repeaters too. ⭐️⭐️God Bless the USA 🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⭐️⭐️ |
