United Kingdom 2009 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Santorini Black
Weird intermittent turbo noise
When I start my Puma and drive from cold there is no problem whatseover, but the problem seems to start when the engine is warm. eg when I do the school run its fine then when I get back in the car, after it being turned off for a few minutes, the turbo lets out a real whine (ish) noise the first couple of times that it reaches boost and then it stops and is fine again. Sometime the whine is loud, sometimes its a background noise, but its definitely there.

Any thoughts on what it could be? The turbo seems to be fine, and perfectly quiet, 99% of the time. There doesnt seem to be any performance issues, its not burning masses of oil and economy is fine too.

I have checked pipes and cant see any splits, nor evidence thereof.

Have checked the breather pipe and there is a bit of scaly crus in that - could this be it?

Any ideas would be great appreciated as its baffling me and driving me mad. Plus I dont want a big bang and an even bigger bill.
