That’s horrible, I hope everyone was ok, and there was no kids or pets in the car, glad mine is 99% used on road Thanks Jim.

For the multiple rolls it undergoes it seemed to stand up remarkably well. I don’t understand the dialogue at the end but once the hill climb failed and the back end was kicked over by the uneven ground it hit this result shown for the occupants was remarkable in how well they had survived. 1995 Defender 110 CSW

![]() I can't think of another vehicle that I wouldn't expect to come off a whole lot better than that. but then perhaps I'm deluded? |

That hill must be much steeper than it looks in the video (they always look less steep for some reason). By my count that rolled at least 9 times, and that being so it's perhaps no wonder it collapsed.
What particularly interests me is the way the n/s/r suspension collapses and the axle is dislodged forwards when it hits the rock(?) at the start of the roll. I think the manouvre the driver was attempting was far more extreme that the video initially suggests. He didn't seem to have any control after the ascent failed but not knowing the facts or people and not being there I don't intend to speculate on the reason for the loss of control. |

my guess was that he lost drive when something broke. it went backwards like it was coasting. V8 90...WIP

I still can believe people try that sort of thing without a roll cage, even a front half cage would be better than nothing
That goes for any extreme off road. I've lost count of the number of Jeeps and Toyotas you see on youtube totally flattened by falling over just once from a failed rock crawl 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320 |

It is always in my mind that that is a very likely outcome in a TDCi if the output adaptor shaft fails at the wrong time.

On the comment for other vehicles coming off better.
I was in a freelander two that rolled 5 times sideways over down a 32 day hill. We were doing around 25mph when it went wrong. The a pillar had a depression drivers side of 4" Rear window and drivers window broke. All other glass stayed in. Vehicle finished on wheels. All three of us came out with minor bruises. We got out by opening the doors which all worked better than my current defender! 4hrs later we drove it out of the woods,it registered a camera fault, which was fair enough as the camera was on the wing mirror 10m back up the hill. Total 42m height drop on the roll. 600 miles on the clock, written off! Cheers James 110 2010 XS Utility 130 2011 M57 bespoke Camper 90 2010 Hardtop 90 M57 1988 Hardtop |
