Afternoon all,
Took the plunge and fitted side window's to Grover. Took my time, made sure I had the tools required and really pleased with the results. Must have measured about 10 times before I drilled the first pilot hole and fired up the jig saw. Dogs will be happier now in this hotter weather. Windows are genuine land rover sliding ones bought off a fellow site member. Changes the appearance of old Grover and cost me no more in insurance, (with A plan). Kind regards, Simon ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge |

That is one of the best and neatest jigsaw cuts to fit side windows I have seen and a really professional looking job.

Looks good + van speed limits are 10 mph less (on 60mph roads) than those for a car.
A van with windows behind the drivers door is classed as a car so 60mph rather than 50mph where appropriate. ![]() |

Thanks guy's. Just need to get him out in the rain now to test they are not leaking. Was a straight forward job and glad I'd watch Ed China fitting them to their one on Utube several times!!. The only difference was that their one had riveted in windows and these one were bonded items. I have ordered some trim to fit on the inside edge around the holes I cut to finish this project off.
Next job, replace the rear quarter windows as one of them has de-laminated. New rubber required too. Anyone got these items gathering dust or tucked away in their garage/store??. Kind regards, Simon ![]() |

You're right Blackwolf - things have changed since I was done a few years ago

Actually things haven't changed at all, this has always been the case. If you were genuinely done for driving a Defender at a speed which was legal for a car but not for a van, then you should have challenged the ticket since it was unlawful.
The only exception would be if your vehicle for some reason did not qualify as a DPV, which might be the case if either it did not have full or part time all-wheel-drive (eg one of the weird 4x2 vehicles the army had built in the '50s/'60s), or if the unladen weight exceeded 2040Kg. So if you were in a 6x4 cherry-picker conversion you would have earned a ticket, but in any standard Defender the ticket was illegal. It is probably not too late to appeal it. |

I must admit I was very nervous when I drilled the pilot holes but once that was done I said to myself "What's the worse that could happen", following that, the jigsaw came out and I took my time and trusted my measurements. The worse bit was the windscreen adhesive. It's set within an hour (drive away time!), it goes everywhere and in the heat was setting really quickly. I must have gone through about 20 sets of rubber gloves. I did end up with it in my hair , face and clothing. Mrs H was not pleased.
Still all done now. Beach friday, so dogs will give the windows a road test. Pictures to follow. Cheers guy's. Simon ![]() |

Nice one
![]() You've (almost) inspired me to do mine, as it has badly marked side panels that windows would cure perfectly ![]() 1993 200tdi 90 hard-top 1998 300tdi 90 soft-top 2016 2.2 XS 90 hard-top (sold) |
