Faux RHS vent blanking plate
Is there a reason why the 2.2 litre Defender has a blanking plate for the faux vent on the front right wing panel, but the 2.4 has a grill with holes ?
Wouldn't cooling be improved if the 2.2 vent could breathe? Why did they introduce this part?

My 2.4 doesn't have holes. It's just the blank they used for all previous models.
If you've seen one with a grille, My guess is someone has added the vent grille from a LHD vehicle at some point.

My 2.4 isnt a grill either. But ive rivetted a blanking plate underneath for well known security reasons.

The standard arrangement is for the drivers side to be fitted with a non-perforated blank plate. It's obviously to allow for the heater to be fitted on either side to accommodate left and right hand drive. If you've got one fitted with a grill on the drivers side then, as already mentioned, it's been fitted by a previous owner.

I've never understood why people fit grills in place of the blanking plate, let alone the 'air ram' ones such as KBX. All it does is allow rain to get in where it shouldn't Confused Darren

The rain on a KBX opposite to the heater / fan intake just goes directly onto the plastic inner arch below and then runs straight onto the ground.
Even then it'd be very little compared to a factory 'open' vent due to design and engine warmth soon dries everything up in the vicinity.
There is nowhere it can go that causes any issues. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Thanks for the input. The 2.4 I was going by was an unmodified SVX so perhaps specific to that model.

It really shouldn't be. That wasn't a part that was changed on the SVX.

My point was, Steve, that having an open vent on the drivers side, of whatever design, serves no purpose. Darren

To be honest I doubt it makes much difference in terms of rain. There's a great big gap with no seal where the bonnet meets the wing, so as much if not more water will run in there and it leads straight to the same place the vent does.
That being said there's still no point fitting a grille on both sides.

My early 2.2 has the snorkel and a grill. Like the 2.4. Strange... Cow
