Leak from Transfer Box front seal ?
Hello,
I picked up my landrover a couple of weeks ago and there appears to be a leak coming from the drain hole (?) between the main gearbox and the transfer box. It's a 2010 pickup with 22k miles. Would I be correct to assume its the front oil seal ? If so, and I have to take the transfer box off, are there any other seals which should be replaced at the same time (seal kit?)

Lastly, I've not attempted to tackle a job like this before and wondered whether it was just worth taking it back to the dealer to see if he would carry out the work, as its only been two weeks. On the other hand, I want to be able to fix the landy myself where possible, so this might be the perfect opportunity to start !?

Any pointers gratefully received.

Cheers
Matt

It could be the rear seal on the gearbox or the front seal on the transfer box.

Whilst you have the transfer box off, check the output adaptor shaft splined coupling, a notorious failure point on the TDCi Defender, and subject of many threads on the forum.

Thanks - have read a lot over the past few hours ! Now a bit worried about the output shaft.

Have decided to take it to a garage to get them to have a proper look as the Trader has offered to pay half of the repair cost.

Thanks for the info. Thumbs Up
