Hybrid or VNT. Anybody done it?
As the title says.

Entertaining having it done to mine. Wondered about other people’s experiences with which variant and advice that was given by the supplier etc

I have an IRB supplied VGT on my Td5. make it drive like a "modern" diesel, i.e. much more torque from low revs.

Along with a 190bhp ECU flash as well.

Was it remapped previously?

I think I may have had an Allisport 140 or 170 on it. I've got a collection of maps here.

CRTurbos Hybrid and TD5INSIDE map + Allisport IC and a few other bits. I love it especially the turbo and the noise it makes!

Probs hitting 200bhp maybe 500nm or so. Must get it on a dyno soon Instagram @defender_ventures

I wouldn't mind hearing your dyno results as I have a similar setup here. Wink

So were your tunes specific to your exact setups or just a generic tune and now you have a better turbo to help it?

Mine was a TD5Inside remap done by Jose specific to my Defender, he remapped it then went for several spins before tweaking the remap and turbo boost, however at that time it was just standard equipment but I've since fitted an uprated intercooler and turbo therefore i need the remap and boost pressure tweaked again so I've been in touch with Jose to do so.

Yes my map was VGT specific from IRB. As above, se went for several drives as Ian uploadaed different maps. Most were the same power, but each one felt a little different. I just chose the one that felt "best" for my vehicle.

Bespoke map. I fitted everything then had it mapped by Jose had it tweaked a few times but now running very well boosting roughly 26psi.

Also got an Eco map and Daily maps changed via Nanocom. Instagram @defender_ventures

VGT - garrett 23 (modified fins)
Large inter cooler - serck motorsports

Well, i would say it's worth the effort. You need the larger intercooler if you are on a VGT setup. As you are trying to push more cool air into the engine, but then you will also need more fuel into the cylinders. The theory is simple, more air + more fuel = more bang in the cylinders.

But you don't want to be spitting out huge amount of black smoke at all the wrong RPM, rite? sure will get you the wrong type of attention and makes your wallet lighter, be it wasted fuel and a hefty fine.

I'm sure there are folks way better at this tuning than me, as I do it purely for fun.

Am i happy with the results, yeah, but there's always room for improvement.
the turbo whistle and the sound of the exhaust, it's probably as sweet as it sounds.

now, in terms of pulling, it's good. uphill in gear 4 without skipping a beat. depending on your driving style and shifting points it feels so much better over the lazy stock tune. temperatures are in the 86 to 88 deg peaking at 92 once in awhile.

Now the thing here is that, if it's a spare drive, then sure up the power till it goes bang. you don't want silly figures of power just for a few months and have an engine that will blow up while overlanding or snap the drive line in the wood too.

Hence, to say, i'm on the conservative side of what it can achieve. I'm even limiting it to 1.9bar of boost only, most of my driving never even sees 1.5 bar. the stock has a limit of 1.4bar From the land of the most expensive land rover defenders on planet earth. Interested to hear how you wrote your own tune Achuakh.

I've seen the map profile part of the nanocom software but never had a clue how to do it.
