I had a small tent-trailer. So small so it was not visible in mirrors. Cheap camera and small LCD was the right solution, without this, it was nearly impossible to reverse with trailer.
Definitely wired - you need wires to power the camera, so it is only one more wire for the video. LCD in mirror - not good idea - with empty car I use both but for different view - camera for close view of trailer, mirror for all another use. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "Blufínek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

I'm watching this thread with interest. I would like a reversing/hitching camera system with a monitor that looks OEM and not a bolt on. I know that the double din looks fully integrated but the single din standard Alpine is fine for me as ICE is something that does not interest me and I'm averse to spending a few hundred quid on a DD when all I want is a video monitor. I have seen it before and thought it’s very expensive for what it is, especially when you buy all the sensors for the trailers and tyres 10 sensors probably! |

I agree the trailair is expensive. It's a shame they don't sell the camera on its own, as the mount is very neat.
I bought one of the £30 cameras and 6" screens from ebay. The screen was decent quality and I don't see why it couldn't just be stuck to the top of the dash on the passenger side angled towards the driver. I didn't bother with the screen, as I went double din and used the camera with that. But so far the camera's lasted over a year and hasn't leaked or fallen apart. I mounted the camera below the trailer socket recess under the rear crossmember. There is already a hole under there so I just bolted it up with a penny washer either side of the cross member. It's angled so it looks towards the ball hitch, so coupling is easier. It's not ideal for parking in this position, but it's ok. For parking I think it's best above the rear washer jet looking down so you can see the spare wheel, but then you can't see the tow hitch! When I get around to it, I want to couple up to my trailer then get someone to put some marks on the headboard inline with either side of the rear tub so I know it's central when reversing up to it. |

Old thread I know, but I have the Yi Mirror - fits really well over the standard defender mirror. I will try and get some pics.

Thanks But I have already posted about the mirror head kit in another thread. I thought you were referring to a new design of reversing camera. I know them as Design Solutions though not Design Engineering For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Yes it does, but a tad expensive compared to others on the market. Saying that I have been driving Defenders since 1984 and series since 1967 and never has a problem with reversing without an aid with either cameras or sensors. Very nice to have and and all my other cars they have come as standard but that is not why I drive a Defender. I just saw something that may fit your requirement while browsing the Defender Upgrades website yesterday.
