Mantec Load Lugga brackets..?
Hi,

I have been kindly given a Load Lugga, but it was for a Disco3/4.

I therefore need to make some fixing brackets for my Defender 90. Before I do, does anyone have any detailed photos/drawings/measurements of the Defender brackets.

Ive got a copy of the fitting instructions, but the bracket photos aren't very detailed/clear.

If no, it'll be trial & error with my tape measure.

cheers

simon

Wouldn't you be better off selling it to a D3/D4 owner and then either buying a used Defender one or just make one. I have a feeling I've seen someone that does their own version of it, along with the wheel arch bins.

The brackets are basically in two parts. There one with a C cross section that bolts to the roof/cant rail bolts behind the side trim, then an S cross section that bolts to the top of that, so you end up with a ledge either side for the shelf to sit on.

To be honest if you're going to make the brackets you may as well make the shelf too as it's not a lot of work, considering what you can probably sell the Discovery shelf kit for.

Probably a better idea..Wink

Flatdog do them now that Mantec has gone bust... https://www.flatdoguk.com/defender-upper-cargo-shelf~2665

I was going to make one and then someone gave me this one (I was originally asking where to get the mesh to make the shelf itself).

Having this one, I now feel the urge to make it work, but often that just ends in tears...!

cheers

The mesh on the Mantec and presumably Flatdog ones are just where they're pressed out of a single sheet of steel.

I reckon though if you make a frame you could buy a cheap second hand cargo barrier and it'll give you enough mesh for it. It doesn't have to be a Defender cargo barrier, one from a transit or Sprinter would do.

I think for the sake of £150 you may as well buy a flat dog one and sell your Discovery one. Chances are you'll get at least £75 for it.

I did not take measurements but some photos. Two brackets on each side, first one goes underneath where the roof is bolted onto the side panels using two of the existing roof bolts:

Once in place (facing up), the second bracket is mounted onto the first one using three bolts:

The actual load lugga is then fastened to the second bracket:

Hope that helps a little bit.
