MOTs on 300s with out EGRs
Has anyone had a mot done recently with one removed? if so did it pass?
I have a funny feeling that this new place I am taking my cars too, is going to fail mine with out one on. Due to his advisories with the 306, which he struggled to explain. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Not the most useful advice but I know some variations of the Wolf fleet were supplied minus an egr, this was a direct action of Land Rover to supply with out one. There will probably already be some of those released and in use on civvie Street.

Now our fleet has an equivalent of an mot done in house, the easiest way to bypass any problems is to remove the spacers where the egr bolts to the manifold and replace it with a solid spacer, egr will look completely normal but have no use other than aesthetics Thumbs Up 90 wolf - Jasmin http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39408.html

I took out the EGR kit from my 300tdi years ago. Went through it’s MOT no issues at all last month.

Not sure it's directly relevant, but my 300tdi never had an EGR, and as far as emissions are concerned it's never had a problem at MOT time. Donald

Unfortunately Donald, it's not relevant. The MOT emissions test doesn't cover what the EGR does, so it wouldn't indicate whether one is fitted or not. Darren

Earlier Defender 300tdi commercials came from the factory with a blanking plate where the the EGR valve would have been on the exhaust manifold. I don't know when this changed but I was certainly buying new 110 Hardtops in 1996/7 from Land Rover in this format and the blanking plate had a Land Rover part number because I used one to blank the EGR on my 1996 Discovery.
My 1997 Defender 90 passed it's MOT since the changes without an EGR valve in place.

Just MOT mine today and was told new laws came in in May this year and the new kit knows if a EGR has been removed he did not have the new kit fitted yet but there also a lad on the same estate that chips and removes EGR for a living who told me there's always ways around new rules,so not very helpful but at least you know it's coming .

I don't think it was just commercials. My CSW never had one fitted as far as I know. It's first owner was a commercial company though. Backed up by one of the engineers at JLR who thought the first 300s never had them fitted. Ed

^^^^^^ In a way, that's the point I was trying to make earlier, but maybe not very well.

My car is a 300tdi 110 Utility SW. 1994. I believe it's among the first 300s. It never had an EGR fitted, but it never causes an MOT issue, or even gets a mention. Donald

Mine has been MoT’d today with no issues for being without the EGR. Mine is a 1995 so am now interested if it was ever fitted.
P.S. no issue with LED original pattern lights as well. 1995 Defender 110 CSW
