Does anyone have any experiance with one, i have been browsing devon4x4 today and noticed they sell them. Is it worth the money or are there better satnav and gps systems out there??

sounds like the htc is something to consider, but i think the screen size would become a major downside to it, although it would be less items to carry 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon

Pom 7000 GB is the Model number and GB means Great Britain mapping
Got one do I like it yes and no its fit for general use but the Video in is pants and I'll use fugawi on the tablet for green lanes etc |

ken what would you say are the bad points apart from the video in, my main concern would be volume and accurate navigation both on and off road. which tablet do you use? 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon |

I'd love a small tablet with a proper gps. the ipad works well but is too big.

thats the other option, but i would still need to replace my 7yr old navman none postcoded navigation, which is on the blink, idealy with just the one unit 2004 TD5 Defender 90 xs station wagon

Well, an ipad with a seperate gps receiver is VERY accurate. Mine is the non 3g version which is a fair bit cheaper than the 3g. My GPS receiver is a bluenext. You have to jail break the ipad and download an app called Roqy Bluetooth which is cheap and allows the gps to talk to the ipad. then you install memory map on the ipad and go from there. Its not a difficult thing to do at all and the screen on the ipad is a pleasure due to the size. The accuracy of the GPS is never greater than 6 feet, and of course you can download other apps like mobile maps for the UK and europe so you can use it as a sat nav. The potentially more expensive bit of that set up is the mount you choose. I have a brodit iphone mount and I just unscrewed the phone holder bit and mounted a RAM mount onto it with an arm. Very robust but not especially cheap.
However, if you add up the cost of the ipad (think mine was 350 quid) the gps receiver (14 quid), the roqy bluetooth (a tenner) and the mounts, its still a heck of a lot cheaper than the memory map device, and you can use it for many other things of course. |

Slightly off topic but related to the use of the iPad , when I watch videos of off roading there appears to be one person out of the car at difficult points . So I was thinking , there are apps called camera A and camera B which basically allows you to transmit via Bluetooth a live view of what you are pointing the camera of you iphone at onto your iPad
If you are using your iPad for Nav would that not be a great help when executing difficult pieces. The Memory Map is pretty good.
However, the SatMap unit is amazing! I use SatMap quite a lot, the only issue is, for the downloaders, SatMap maps, cannot be cracked, so you pay's your money for them www.satmap.co.uk Craig Rogers 2007 Puma 110 XS 2011 Evoque Coupe Dynamic Lux www.craigrogers.photography |

I use Memory map and satmap got a map of them for Morocco and it turns out to be a world map brilliant map st map of Morocco towns and cities RLD fabricator of Hidden Winch Mount for D3/4 roof racks jerry can holders CB aerial mounts and much more and agent for Helsport Tents and gear

Another vote for sat map. It is small enough to be carried but screen big enough to use in the truck(just)
