So it seems that Nissan have over sold the benefits of the electric cars they are pushing to get rid of the diesel.

I do wonder about all this pollution business.
On my way to work last week, heading towards Manchester, for several days I could see the smoke trail from Saddleworth Moor, drifting for mile after mile. Then a few days later another section of moor was ablaze over near Bury. And finally on Friday, a plastics factory went up in smoke close to the centre of Rochdale, billowing clouds of thick black acrid smoke into the air. So, collectively these three events must have generated all sorts of airborne particulate pollution. And yet the powers that be seem to be fixated with passenger vehicle emissions. How many hours/days/weeks/months would every Defender in the UK have to run to match the amount of c **p thrown into the air from the two moor fires and a plastics factory blaze? |

Well that's another hit to Nissan, they have already put one of the lines on a four day week. The new leaf is the only new work, that the company I work for has. So this could cause trouble for where I work, as the sale of the new leaf could drop off badly.
I still think electric car tech just isn't ready yet, for the world at all. Also I can see it been more expensive to fix than a diesel or petrol car. Also the running cost I can see been more expensive too than what we have now too. Not to mention what will be in store for tax wise etc. could we see a possible Uturn with diesel cars? So many of the worlds governments are trying to get us away from the fossil burning cars and trucks.
A Boeing 777 holds about 38,000 imperial gallons (172,000 litres) of fuel. Has a range of 7,730 nautical miles. (That's about 5.85 gallons per mile). (by the way only 1 flight is about the same as 2150 people filling their Defenders and burning a full tank of fuel) When you consider there are probably about 1500 in service, many are in orbit over our planet at any given time, and that's only a small portion of commercial airliners out there... that's a lot of burnt fuel. So... how do all the politicians and "green" supporters get to all these conferences and meetings around the globe that concern climate change?? At 20.42 GMT tonight there was a total of 10672 commercial aircraft operational in the World. That's one hell of a lot of fossil fuel.
