^^^ Thanks Legin. We have some friends near Braintree actually, so next time we're over we'll find an excuse for a drive, perhaps to a nice pub?
BTW Legin, with regard to your tan, you do know you're in the home of fake tan (bottle, spray, bed) so you have no excuse for being pink and white. Stick in a nice set of veneers and you'll be right at home Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

The Fox is in the middle of Finchingfield, Grenadier.
Try not to come on a Summer week-end, unless you really like motorbikes! |

Definitely needed a warning before the BBQ photo Nice write up Legin
I grew up in Coggeshall and went to school in Colchester. My parents are still in Coggeshall and I drop in most weeks when I'm working in London. It is a nice part of the world. To my mind north east Essex is much like Suffolk. Although a little way from Coggeshall, my father's favourite pub is here: http://www.compasseslittleygreen.co.uk/ He was telling me he had been talking to someone there with a number of old landrovers - if that was anyone on here and you were bemused / offended......he is a bike man and cannot understand why anyone could get remotely excited about 'an agricultural vehicle'...noisy, slow, uncomfortable etc etc. |

Costal erosion. Bits of Cornwall are always falling into the sea. Agree about that BBQ photo. I’ll be having bloomin’ nightmares for months. |

Don't forget Essex also has the Dedham Vale AONB, Constable Country which is beautiful. And that is praise indeed from a Suffolk Boy! James

Great review and nice to hear the acknowledgement that it is not all full of TOWIE and Love Island nonsense 😄
Being lucky enough to be in the top end of the county we have a lot of nice villages that are off the commercial radar. The Fox in Finchingfield +1 The Vine in Bardfield, Half moon in Belchamp St Paul are also nice watering holes. Also worth a visit are the Essex villages on the Left side of the M11 corridor. You going north or south Tomcat? Both sets of in-laws live around about Harlow. Some cracking villages around there |

I don't know the Half Moon, but the Vine is closely associated with my family as my grandfather married the girl next door, who was the Landlord of The Vine's daughter. My father virtually lived in the place. Beware though - a group of Guns and scruffy beaters congregate in there on alternate Saturday afternoons in winter, after a day in the field. A gathering of Defenders around Finchingfield pond would be interesting...... |
