Pressure in the cooling system
Hi All,

I need some advice regarding pressure in the cooling system of my 2013 2.2 l 130. A bit of background, 20k kms ago the EGR cooler failed and dumped cooling water into the engine resulting in a new head/gasket etc, quite some big repair. The EGR was turned off via the computer. The vehicle ran well until recently when a split in the radiator occurred, in the last month I have replaced the radiator, and the water pump which had failed, so suspected this was the problem along with the new thermostat. Still there was nothing to see under the vehicle but coolant was noticed coming from the overflow bottle cap so replace the cap which made no difference and then two days ago replaced the overflow bottle and another new cap. Still there is coolant blowing out of the overflow cap. I have had a couple of mechs look at the problem there is no water in the sump/oil and I am loosing about half a bottle of coolant a day. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust and no visible leaks anywhere other than the bottle cap.

I have been told it is not likely to be a cracked block or sleeve as there are no knocking noises coming from the engine, when I took the vehicle back to the original repairer they did some sort of pressure test overnight so suspecting to see if the block was cracked but not sure on this but all was ok. I am at a loss as to what the problem is. If any one has any ideas can you please let me know

Many thanks

Daniel

Do you know if they pressure tested the head?
I know you mentioned the block.

I’m going through a similar thing at the moment!
Mine was using coolant at a spectacular rate, with no visible leaks, no pressure in the system, still starting and running as normal?
Hope to get the head off tonight, and get the head tested and skimmed.
I’ve tested the egr cooler, and it’s ok.

I can’t see the block being affected, but if that’s the case, it will come out and go for scrap. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

No not sure about the head but I have heard that it is not that uncommon for head gaskets to fail again. This is a new head and gasket. I think pressure testing the head is the next thing, please let me know how you go and what you find when you get the head off.

Thanks

Daniel
