Optimill
hello,

I've looked at this kinda stuff before and it's all very tempting ... never managed to actually do it but what I will say is ....

ALL of the Optimill kit that I have is REALLY very nice.

I touched there hinges and door handles at shows and they look upto the same stupidly nice standard so if you up for this kind of kit I'd check them out .....

The main reason I've NOT bought hinges and handles is I like driving through hedges and it would be a crime !!

Regards

If you look in the group buy section you will see at least 4 group buys have taken place for the Nakatanenga stainless steel bolt kits which amounts to about 100+kits. These are imported into the UK from Nakatanenga by 4x4overlander.

These bolt kits are the only ones available in the UK with genuine LR door bolt heads and come with anti seize paste as standard.

Now the Defender 70th edition has a stainless bolt option and guess which bolt kits they are using? Yes they are buying the Nakatanenga stainless bolt kits from 4x4overlander. Bow down The last batch of these door bolts went out to JLR yesterday.

It has only taken JLR 70 years to realise their bolts rust and that they should use bolts from Nakatanenga. Rolling with laughter

Now I wonder what LED headlights JLR fitted into the 70th edition? Laughing

YRM stainless bits are decent. Same heads as LR, made in England, every fixing needed and can be bought as separate parts so you don't have to do it all at once. Well priced too.

I bought the Nakatanega set, it's pretty good. Although I was a bit disappointed that I had to cut down the 2nd row upper door hinge bolts so they didn't stick out into the passenger compartment, for the money they should have been spot on. The aluminium paste they come with gets everywhere, make sure you have some decent hand wipes handy. Other wise it looks like a Police Forensic officer has finger printed your car. Laughing

One tip I would say is get new captive nuts for the front hinges to bulkhead bolts. One of mine fell to bits when I undid the bolts and of course the nut dropped down into the bottom of the A pillar never to be seen again. I think there was another that was in a poor state once I removed the bolt.

Thumbs Up

Nakatanenga do kits for both 3 door and 5 door Defenders with the 5 door one contains about 430 parts weighing about 2.8 kg. The kit contains anti seize paste as standard.

LR used a couple of different size spacers on the B pillars IIRC. It is recommended that the door bolts are changed one at a time checking you get the correct length ones.
