Hello folks,
Has anybody used one of these switch panels from MUD UK, designed to fit in the side of the central fascia? https://www.mudstuff.co.uk/products/mud-st...panel.html I have a need for some additional switches and this might be a solution but I'd be interested in feedback on fit and quality. I have one of the vertical type but haven't fitted it (yet). As usual with Mud products, I cannot fault the quality.
Personally I think it looks better than the kind that appears to have landed on top of the dash (personal opinion, of course)! It looks as though it is meant to be there, whilst other styles tend to look more like afterthoughts IMO. |

I think the dash top one was a great idea, but the execution was a bit iffy. They could have made the back of it follow the moulding lines in the existing dash - and then there is that mud splash logo on it.
I do have a few mud stuff bits and they're all pretty good quality, I don't have the vertical switch panel but I've no doubt it'll be decent quality. |

I'm not really a fan of the 'pod', I'm afraid. If I'm honest, I'm not that enamoured by the switch panel but it's looking like the least worst option for what I want that I can buy off the shelf. In an ideal world, I was hoping to use re-purposed standard switches but one of the types that I need doesn't exist. Plus, there's the issue of getting appropriate graphics The advantage of going down the Carling switch route is that at least there are lots of different symbols available, as well as switch types. If you don't use the cupholders I'm sure I've seen a panel which fits in there on the cubby?

I don't know about your particular application, but many standard switches can be modified to operate in other ways with a little bit of creativity.

You can use a changeover type relay (SPDT/SPCO) to make an ON-ON output from an ON-OFF switch. The rear wiper is basically set up like this. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Yeah, I was looking for an simpler solution, to be honest. It needs to be able to retain its' state when the power is turned on and off.
The purpose is to switch the earth of an accessory to enable me to isolate it and light an indictor to tell me that it's isolated, like this: Click image to enlarge I want to use this for two things: firstly a VSR that will be the centre of my split charge wiring and secondly, the control circuit for my rear work light. The latter is quite complex to provide the functionality that I want and will look something like this: Click image to enlarge That's not quite finished yet, as the isolator switch is shown in the wrong place. The principle though, is that the light will operate automatically if reverse is selected and the side lights are on, i.e. at night. In addition, there will be push buttons on the dash and at the rear door to turn it on manually, but this is overridden by a feed from the brake lights so I can't drive off with the light on. That part relies on the latching relay resetting when the power is disconnected. The isolator switch is to allow me to override the automatic function. I have the mud switch panel thing, it's good and looks right.
Two things though. 1) it's very difficult to get it to line up neatly. The dash isn't square, so even if you manage to make the switch panel square to something it will be out of line with something else. Mine is about 1mm out of alignment and it's enough to annoy me. 2) think about how you're going to cut the dash, I didn't want to use power tools because you could very quickly get yourself in a muddle. I made myself a jigsaw blade holder so I could use a jigsaw blade as a hand saw, that was ideal. I've fitted a pair of USB sockets in to the lowest switch location and that works very well. |

I too like the vertical type more, but I don't need one.
I prefer the OE switch style inserts but they are only two or four switches I think? Plus not al switch logos are suitable. The only thing I'd like to see more on the mud ones would be concealed fixings so it locks in. I am not a fan of exposed screw heads on such a fitting.
