Flat Spot on Light Throttle
Had this problem a couple of times, and suspect either 1 of 2 culprits.

When travelling along on light throttle, the truck jerks, like somebody is stamping up and down on the throttle. It clears if the throttle is either lifted, or pressed harder. Therefore my initial thoughts were that it was a faulty TPS.

But, I then began to think about why I only get this problem occasionally, and when I first noticed it, and realised that it only happens when the fuel is low, so as an experiment last night filled the tank and problem disappears, so I am now suspecting fuel pump problem.

Has anybody else had a similar problem.

Truck is a 2004 HiCap.

Further update on this, it is now getting worse, so I think that the fuel tank level may have been a bit of a red herring.

Need some help with this, as I am unsure whether to go down the Throttle Position Sensor or Fuel Pump Routes to initially look at. Not helped by the need for a 300 + mile journey this weekend.
Has anybody else made any progress with this problem, or resolved it.

Otherwise is there anybody on here in North Kent that could help me with plugging into diagnostic tool?

I am having the same problem. Lifting the boost pressure has made it slightly better but hasn't completely cured it 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car)

Yep got the same problem. Mines completely on and off though if its not under load at a fairly wide range. Its almost every second, at regular intervals. 2004 TD5 130 North Cumbria Search and Rescue - Team Leader

plugging into diagnostic tool for fuel pump not point, system can not read fuel presser

presser gage at engine end fuel system presser 4 bar with pump running



video shows fuel presser test for disco 2 same engine but elect part of the video will be not good for defender

had same problem with 90 low fuel presser i.e. 2.1 bar start and run ok but Flat Spot on Light Throttle and in time not power to towing and hills

I will tell you gents if this helps later on this week. I also have this problem and have narrowed it down to the pump. Should be here today, so change at the weekend.

Spent a couple of hours yesterday creating the pump inspection panel;

I'm wondering if I have a similar issue. No flat spot, but it's just generally a bit limp. Managed to get a gauge on the post regulator side and getting 4bar with engine off, but once it's warmed up it sits nearer 3.5, and as low as 3 under hard acceleration!

Is it in that tight?! I think I'd just drop the tank rather than cut holes in the floor

I am now confused by the problem, as I mentioned I had to run to Cromer on Saturday (350 mile round trip), truck had no problem running 75 / 80mph all of the time on motorway, and felt quite lively, so I started to suspect that the problem was not the fuel pump, as it was running so well, despite the fact that when we left in the morning I could occasionally feel the flat spot, which started leading me towards thinking it was the Throttle pedal.

However, on the way home, I didn't notice it at all, to the extent that I tried to replicate what I knew would have caused it previously and couldn't

Is this something that could 'fix itself'?

Having dropped the tank once before and had a pipe split on me i am not keen to do it again. Added to this I would have to remove the X-eng anti-roll bar and quite honestly without a ramp the job is a bit of a PITA... Hence the inspection hatch. Have a drawer system on top of this in the well so it will only be used when I need to get the pump out.

The Discovery has one, the Defender should of as well IMHO.
