Aha, I had noticed that your location was "South West" but had completely failed to notice the tricolour - I thought you were GB.

Now I understand!

I found that my engine ran perceptibly better once the EGR was disabled, and would hate to be without the map, but I understand your points. Thumbs Up

You have to remember with a remap the fuelling is also much more efficient so I can see it balancing out.

There will also be lots of fluctuation on a vehicle like a Defender for various readings and I wouldn't mind betting nearly all would read differently.

One of the biggest problems with it in my opinion is the fact that it is not fit for purpose in my opinion.

If it does have to be replaced regularly that's fine but if so at least make it relatively cheap and easy access.
When they cause faults I would imagine you'd be creating more emissions as your getting no performance.
There is definitely an increase in MPG also which should balance out any possible increases emmissions wise.

But then who am I, the geniuses designed it and the we have to pay for the damned things every year or two.

One question - is it possible to insert the blanking plate (before the EGR cooler) without removing the whole exhaust manifold?

Now I have seen the configuration of the holes in the tube TBH I don't think there will be much difference between drilling a 5mm � hole or a 10mm � hole. I have drilled my blanking plate out to 19mm �

Some blanking plates have little hooks rather than the rings and they are possible to fit just by loosening the bolts.

Thanks. Mine has holes but I can cut it.
What if I leave the exhaust manifold in place and undo the nuts on EGR and the cooler? Is it possible to put a plate with holes like this? Bergos

Hello,

I'm about to install a blanking plate on my -08 Puma, but was a bit confused trying to locate the EGR-unit itself. I suppose it is on the non-turbo side of the engine? Is it on the front or the rear end of the engine block? I have been looking at the pictures above, but despite that cannot locate the unit in the engine bay Confused Embarassed

Will the blanking plate only go on one end of the EGR-valve, or is it possible to fit it on the wrong end? Or is there any difference at all on which side of the valve the plate is installed?

Sorry for the daft questions!

if you look at the last but one photo you can see the turbo heat shield.

mine install at the other end of the egr cool (which is the pipe with the soot and many small holes)

I see as it makes much difference as to where it's closed really. the one above is done towards back of engine on turbo side

Good Afternoon,

What is a Partial EGR Blank? And what are the Benefits?

Eventually we would like a remap with egr mapped out...... but for now can I put a blank in there? My understanding is of I put a 5mm hole in the centre it won't throw the Engine light on ? Is that correct?

I'm going to try and explain my thoughts on what you call a partial blank.. Ie a blanking plate with a small hole..
To me it's really just a bit of a fudge.. To stop fault codes been generated.. It may stop the full flow of exhaust gases through the valve while allowing the map sensor to still confirm to the ecu that the egr valve is functioning.. It may help prolong the build up of carbon etc but lost on me..
As I said a bit of a fudge and in my view a waste of time.. Either get it stopped or allow it to operate as it should..
That's my take on it.. Others may have a different view🤔
