Try a Diamond NR-770RSP I have been using one for a couple of years, seems to work fine, it has the benefit of having a spring built into the Base Fitting, therefore bends a bit when it hits obstacles. Can be purchased here - https://www.hamradio.co.uk/aerials-antenna...d-2570.php Other sources are available. NormanD WE191

I have the Diamond 770RSP as well.
Been on for best part of a year despite the trees (it's mounted to a Brownchurch Roofrack on a slightly lifted Defender. More importantly it is still working well. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

770rsp here too. Survives all sorts of abuse, despite being on a folding mount (I often forget to fold it!)

Ok thanks all......as I am here, what mount will surfice, I am thinking a replacement of the radio aerial as I am fed up with the BBC, but also want to install a CB so do I mount that on the other wing? Are the standard gutter mo7nts you can buy defender friendly?, we are talking So259 for all here.....

I have my CB antenna where there was once an FM radio thingy. It is not the best as it is really quite directional there and was a complete to tune in properly.
If you have a roof rack there are special mounts to fit to them which lift the antenna clear of the surrounding metal work. A gutter mount would work but it would need to have some height to it to clear the roof for best results. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Yeh roof rack would be nice! But I have 2bars on the roof currently, I guess I could attach to the bars with some sort of bracket..... 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW

There are brackets big enough to fit round roof bars....
I think someone posted a link to a website for the 770RSP they have all sorts of mounts as well. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

I bought the aerial and am intending to mount it on a beacon plate that fits my vanguard roof bars, I will have to drill a hole in the truck roof to provide an exit hole for my so 259 though ๐ช ...... two holes actually, one for the C.B. aerial also ๐ญ 2008 TDCi 2.4 XS CSW

If your truck is a CSW (as mine is) I went in above the 2nd row doors by the door seal and not through the the roof.
I can take a picture of the routing if you want to see how I routed it. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

It is a 2008 CSW indeed, and the pics would be fantastic, I notice you are a member of a 4x4 rescue group? That is why I am fitting radios as I am just about to join the Wessex 4x4 rescue ๐

I will sort a couple of pictures a bit later when I get home.
Not sure where you get the idea that I am a member of a 4x4 response group from. I have thought about it but not much round my way that I have found. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Here goes with some pretty average camera phone photo's:
Firstly antenna base and general cable route. Click image to enlarge The wriggle round the roof rack leg. Click image to enlarge Then into the door seal area: Click image to enlarge and finally the route through behind the seal: Click image to enlarge Probably as clear as mud still. If you do it this way you will need to solder a new plug onto the cable in order to keep the hole as small as possible. It is also worth noting before someone pulls me up on it that at the moment I have the M285S 2m antenna up and not the 770RSP. The M285S also does a fairly good job at 6m. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

That's exactly how I had mine routed on the 110 DC too - although I cut a small slot in the frame to avoid having to solder it back together. Never let in any more water than the rest of the door did anyway 2013 Discovery 4 HSE Lux | 2001 Defender 90 TD5 | 2007 Prodrive RB320
