Hi,
... and my second call for help tonight... Having replaced the radiator, I had taken off the oil cooler pipes. A bit rusty methinks, so I'd best replace them. Ordered new ones, with the right part numbers... apparently. The upper one went on OK (well, it didn't for quite a while, but that was my fault and nothing to do with the pipe itself). However the lower one just ain't going to fit too well. Here's some pics of the new and old side by side: Click image to enlarge As you can see, on the new one, the 'fitting' on the oil filter end is just too long: Click image to enlarge This means it's going to be impossible to fit it, as it is. It doesn't really look like too much of a difference, but there just isn't enough room between the oil filter housing and the inner wing to accommodate that longer fitting. It's either bend the pipe, or put a hole in the inner wing. The part number is ESR3690. I went to my local indy and he reckons they had a similar problem once and ended up bending the pipe to get it to fit. It's probably an option if all else fails. The old pipe got pretty seriously twisted while taking it off: it's gone back on again, and seems to be OK, but I don't want to rely on it long term. I'm told that part number has been superseded a few times to something like PBP500191...that won't be exactly right. So the garage have ordered another one and we'll see if it's been amended... But I just thought I'd ask if anyone else has come up against this and found a 'workaround' which doesn't involve a blowtorch and the application of brute force...? Thanks as always. Genuine parts or $hitpart?
Generally Bearmach or Allmakes are usually fairly good. |

Just looking at various images on Google. Would a 200Tdi one fit?

Thanks Lotus - I guess scrap ones are an option so I appreciate the suggestion. I must admit I do find it hard to believe that something as straightforward as this isn't easily available new. All these pipes listed on ebay etc that just won't fit. Bizarre. Donald

The new one with the longer solid pipe is correct and will fit

'Never say never' but I just couldn't see a way that was going to work. Are you saying it will fit on a bog standard 300tdi Defender, with the inner wing in position and intact? If it fits I'd have thought the actual rubber hose would be bent/kinked so tightly that it would restrict oil flow. As I said, even my local LR independent garage said they'd had problems, and they'll have seen a few. Genuinely would appreciate a photo. Just in case this helps anyone in future...
I spoke to the garage that does most of the mechanical work on the car for me. They'd come across this before, and went through the part numbers, and the superseding part numbers, then the ones that superseded those, etc... Anyway eventually we got to something that was going to fit. So, here's a comparison. Not very scientific, but as you can see, I've mounted them side by side, and am applying roughly the same force to each. Click image to enlarge The lower one is the part I'd orginally received (soon to be returned) and the one above is the one we eventually got. This fitted without any trouble at all. It's a lighter construction, the fitting on the filter housing end is shorter, and it's a much more flexible material. I haven't got the packaging to hand to confirm part numbers, but I'll try and remember to do that. By chance I still had the bag lying around. The part no is PBP500200G. The one I got was Britpart, but it seems OK. Hope you get sorted.
