Having driven thousands of Kms on both ST Maxx and BFG AT, aside from slushy, newly fallen snow, I prefer the STs over the BFGs. Looks, profile, sound, Road manners, etc etc. Given my Def is 90% Road biased and given they look similar, I am considering the Cooper Zeon as my next tyre. Apparently even better road manners if that's all you do, yet with the same chunky look as the STs if that's important? Monsieur Le Grenadier

On a relatively well loaded 110 Station Wagon I tend to run 36 front and 36-40 rear dependant on how loaded and whether towing. Seems to work for me and the wear is pretty even. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green - It's a keeper.

I used tp think I had 4 dodgy wheel bearings, not any more, seems to now have the 'whoosh' you hear in a jet plane. maybe just placebo, but I'd say at least 60-70% less noise than the avons, and less vibrations. If I crawled along on tick over before, Wallace used to shudder, as if all 4 UJ'S were seized, today, same road at tickover, its like its on balloon tyres' BUT bear in mind the Avon range masters were 10 years old, with avg 40k on them, and they are prob 30 years old in terms of tyre technology. The only other LR tyres I've had, were MICHELIN military bar grip (Camel trophy )things, before the XZY, and BFG Grip edge that were superb in 7.50 size.

Hi Grenadier. May I ask, is that compared with the previous style BFG All Terrain KO, or the relatively new KO2? It's a toss up between ST Maxx and BFG KO2s for me. I need an all terrain with strong side walls, good grip in a range of conditions and relatively good road manners - particularly wet weather handling and noise on tarmac. Thanks. I was hustling along some wet roads today and I must admit the ST maxx was a fairly stable tyre considering the offroad ability and 2 tons of weaving metal. Also can be found on Fb, Ytube, Insta & Twitter @4WDSouthwest

I tend to drive enthusiastically in most conditions, and not had the tyres give up on me yet. The noise of the car washes out the noise of the tyre in practically all scenarios. Only ever hear the tyre on that sweeping bend from M25 north to m40 east at 60mph....

ST Maxx were used between Oct 2014 and May 2016 and KO2s since May 2016. Not sure when the KO2 was updated, perhaps the dates will help. Note that they were also different sizes, wheels and vehicle, so maybe not a perfect comparison. ST Maxx: 16", Blindos on a 2.2 Puma 7-seat SW. BFG: 18", Bowlers on a 2.4 Puma DCPU. But ST Maxx over BFG for me. As above, might give the Zeons a punt next time as I'll have improved the suspension, (Bilsteins, Eibach springs/ARB and Gwynn Lewis Sumo bar) so it would be a shame to have done that and not have the best tarmac tyre. I'd don't expect to hoon it around, but we have lots of hairpin bends where I live and a little more traction, especially in the damp, would be welcome. Thanks Grenadier! Food for thought, especially as the Cooper's are a little cheaper than the BFGs. Cheers!
