Tyre choices
I have just checked and I need a new tyre as the sidewall is perished on my current tyre. I have a new spare but it would be on an axle with about 7mm on the other tyre and I think the difference in tread would be a bit much.

The rears are not too bad for tread, but I am in two minds if I should just go for 2 tyres at the moment, and then another two in a few months? The only thing is I may end up having different manufactures on each axle?

So I am running 265/75/16 on modular's at the moment, Cooper Discoverer STT (not pro). I would prefer to sacrifice some on road ability to ensure I have the off road, as I don't want to find the tyres lacking when they will be needed.

I would be happy with the STT Pro's in the same size etc, but I am open to other suggestions with reasons why? My annual mileage is only about 5000 miles so not a huge amount so I don't need to be getting huge mileages out of them as I am sure they would be changed by time rather than wear rate.

Go for it, you know you want a full set of 4 new STT Pro all round. Job done, sorted, forget it for the next 10 years.
Keep the 1 old STT as a spare.

Hmm so I was in a similar situation to you Danny a few years back, where I felt I could sacrifice on road for off road ability regarding the tyre choice.

I went for a the BFG KM2, and was initially happy with the choice - they look great and have been solid off road.

However as time as gone on, my tolerance for their noise on road has declined, to the point where I am contemplating if all-terrain would have been the better choice. At the end of the day, I do spend I guess > 90% of my time on road, so not exactly the expected profile of a mud-terrain tyre user Razz

Without wanting to start a whole new tyre debate Whistle

I did find my BFG MTR's a little noisy but the Wrangler MTR's less so - but I do only relatively few miles

My main point though is that you may only do 10% off road, but when you do you may want mud tyres not all terrains.

MTR's do look good but that's not to say the BFG ATR's don't look great. I love my Cooper AT3's on the road, but they do look very road biased tbh

The Heritage has Goodyear Wrangler MTRs on and the road noise (above all other noise) is fine. I’ve done a couple of trips to France and it hasn’t been a drama, although I am Captain Slow when I drive a Defender, 65-70 max. On the mileage you indicate I’d go for an off-road biased tyre.

I have decided to go for the STT's. It is likely I will be on my own when I am going off road, and I really don't wanna get stuck because of the wrong tyres. I can live with road noise, after all with 23 years of driving military vehicles my 110 is whisper quiet compared to them. Rolling with laughter
