Yep I will be there. The venue is an amazing place for anyone interested in old cars. All the old RAF workshops are full of specialist car restorers and it’s fascinating to explore.

Yes the setting is brilliant! Perfect for photos as well. I will most likely be attending on the Saturday, maybe the Sunday also. Instagram - @Land_Rover_Defender

Very tempted but not sure I’ll get away with a trip to this and a county show to see nephew showing.

After a quick blatt up the M40, I spent a very pleasant day at this event today. Lots of interesting vehicles and people. I took lots of photos and here are a selection:
The original V8 soft top from 1967 - a Series IIA fitted with a prototype Buick V8, high ratio diffs, bigger brakes and radial tyres but the original crash gearbox: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Series II No.1: Click image to enlarge And the one that features in Four Weddings and a Funeral, amongst other things: Click image to enlarge Who doesn't like a 130 ambulance: Click image to enlarge And a very smart 130 camper: Click image to enlarge At the other end of the camping scale was this beast. No info on its' origins although the paintwork suggests some sort of industrial or airfield fire tender: Click image to enlarge There were some beautifully restored vehicles on display and then there was this one, held together by the roof:: Click image to enlarge And orange string: Click image to enlarge This very early Freelander wasd a press vehicle and one of only a couple of thousand to feature the black top doors: Click image to enlarge JLR were there with a selection of vehicles including the last one: Click image to enlarge And a Works V8: Click image to enlarge This bizarre looking thing is a private venture to re-purpose Discovery 1's that have succumbed to rot in the body. It's a conversion kit that bolts on to the chassis using all of the original body mounting points to create a road legal and useful, if pig ugly, forward control light truck: Click image to enlarge Stars of the show for me were this Series I recently rescued from St Helena in the south Atlantic, known as 'Oxford', that was one of the two vehicles that were used by Oxford and Cambridge to journey to Singapore and back in 1955: Click image to enlarge And the Camel Trophy 110 used by the Ives brothers, Joe and Bob, to win the 1989 event: Click image to enlarge The brothers were there and gave a fascinating interview about their exploits. They eventually bought their event vehicle and still own it 25 years later: Click image to enlarge Finally, as I was walking back to my own Land Rover, I spotted this very original looking V8 110 in the car park: Click image to enlarge A very interesting day all round and notable for being a genuine show rather than a trade fair, as there was very little to buy! Thank you for posting those pictures. As a Land Rover enthusiasts and owner of fifty years, they brought back a lot of memories.
Would love to have enough money to buy that Works V8 but sadly I do not: For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at.. http://www.youtube.com/user/conwy1 |

I read an article about this one. Great back story and lovely to know it's getting an outing. Thanks for sharing.[/quote] |

I went today, it was ok but the Scramble events are far better in my opinion.
It’s an awesome site (love it!) and hopefully this event will use more of it next year. |

I went along today and was a bit disappointed. £20 entry and there wasn’t much there. Enjoyed listening to Mark Evans and having a wander, but soon had seen it all. It was a shame the workshops were not open. As Jeremy says, the Sunday scramble events are much busier/better.
Hopefully it will grow and become bigger. It seemed very empty today, so not sure if that will put them off doing another. |

My mates dad had a double cab pick up version of one of these, an ex airfield fire truck that I got to drive around a bit as a teen I say double cab but after the first row of seats it had had two rows of back to back bench seats so it could fit 8 people in. We went to the Carling music festivals in Leeds in it

Yes, I went today.
The M25 was flowing freely so it only took two hours in the RRC from North Essex. It wasn't a huge show and it was probably more for rivet counters than the other main Land Rover shows. I met a lot of old friends amongst the exhibitors of Series Ones and Twos so it was good to catch up. Had probably seen most of the vehicles before, but I found the old airfield site interesting! Thanks for posting the pics Ian, I liked that One Ten V8 County Station Wagon too. |
