2007 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Stornoway Grey

Front dampers - which way up?

I fitted Fox dampers to the rear of my 110 last year... They have a vertical pin one end and a horizontal bush the other as shown in the picture below meaning they only fit one way round; with the damper body up and the shaft down

Just fitting the fronts which have vertical pins both ends as per picture below, so which way should they go?
Standard ones are damper body down, shaft up however the standards have a dust cover!
The Fox don't have dust covers so if I fit them in the standard orientation there will be a mud trap on top of the damper body. I know there's a dust seal but I don't want to encourage muck ingress...
If I fit them damper body up, shaft down then the nice shiny Fox damper body will be hidden in the turret

Any suggestions?

Sadly AFAIK both go body up. maybe buy so tubular or D44 turrets to see them.

How do people find the ride and handling characteristics of the Fox dampers? Also, what can you compare them with? I.e. what else have you tried?

OP- as others have said; body up to help the seals live longer 🤓 2014 Keswick Utility 2.2

I have nothing to benchmark them against other than knackered OE dampers but I'm very pleased with mine

A monotube damper can be fitted either way. Anyway, it is better to keep the body shock away from stones and debris. Puma 110" SW
