Can anyone recommend a garage somewhere in Yorkshire that they have experience of in tuning the tdi engine? I have done tweeks myself but feel it could be better by someone with experience.[/b]

Yes good suggestion! Just sent off for a boost ring as I have heard good reports so will report back. Dont think there are many with old tdi s on this forum though.

There are more than you think. Mainly because old TDi engines go on and on and on and on. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I'm another Tdi owner in Yorkshire. There's loads Land Rover specific indies round here but I can't think of any particularly specialising in Tdi tuning?

What sort of tweaks have you already done yourself? Obviously there's no specialist software required to tune a Tdi, it's more about upgrading components. Beyond adjusting the fuel pump I don't think there's much else to tune, you then start looking at bigger intercoolers, turbos, hoses etc.

BAS and other specialists might do this for you but if you buy and fit the parts yourself you could save some money and most of the stuff is fairly straightforward to fit yourself.

Hope that helps Thumbs Up Matt.

I am from the north east, and my dad has a 200 TDi, We think his maybe the last ones before the cross over to 300 TDi, I would have thought a decent diesel specialist would look after you mind, As you still get the old Mechanical pumps on tractors etc. Old school car tuners now are very hard to find, My local one retired. Everyone is now into the remapping sadly. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Well thanks for the replies I was feeling a bit lonely with all the talk on this forum of Pumas and so on. So far I have turned the fuel pin and then replaced it with a boost pin and I have bought a boost ring to fit but that has n't arrived yet. I don't want the expense of new turbo and new intercooler unless the old ones pack up and I have to buy a replacement anyway. I am told I can shorten the actuator rod and perhaps either change where the turbo reads the boost from or simply up the boost a little bit. I'm not after a hot rod but I have a disco transfer box fitted and so a little more power would be handy .

To be fair there are a lot of TDi owners on here as well as PUMA owners, in my mind you do not hear that much from TDi owners as TDi engines are real workhorses and rarely have problems if treated and serviced right. Whereas electronically controlled engines with ECU's do, also Puma engines through a good engine are not in my opinion as tough as the solid TDi's.
I own both a TDi and a Puma and my Puma engine needs a lot more care and attention than does the 200TDi.
Others may disagree with my thoughts but I call things as I personally find them.

I also believe that the more electronic controlled items on a car mean's the more that can go wrong and modern Land Rovers have a lot whereas the trusty TDi's that have very little computerised components to fail, so consequently fewer posts asking for help are needed. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I can agree with that Gilarion. The trend these days to everything electronic in most modern cars could spell the end of home mechanics as the high cost of replacement electronic components, and then getting them coded to the car, will write off cars as they get older. There are many changes that to me seem ridiculous such as fly by wire systems when a cable used to do the job. I think maybe its a sign I am getting old!

Yeah, new engines have sensors for sensor for sensors! They even have sensors for other things that I have never heard of on an engine! But that's what happens when things go too computerised and its starts getting silly. People start charging 30 quid plus just to plug it into diagnostics and then a daft figure to replace the sensor which involves practically stripping the car down, just to change it. Rolling Eyes I had to do a rocker cover gasket change on my Peugeot 306 HDI, and I tell you what, the timing belt cover had to come off, and that was a job and a half! That was just so I could get the rocker cover off! Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
