I'm sure I read a previous post on this (and made a mental note to self) saying that the jet could be replaced just by removing the centre console and radio. I could clearly see the jet nozzle fixing on mine when I had the centre console out a few months ago to sort out the radio. But as I had no need to tinker with the washer jet, I can't confirm if it can be done.
If the instrument binnacle does need to come out as well, then that is a simple job and can be done with the standard steering wheel in place. Good luck. |

2nd page of this post shows how to do it - I saved it because I needed to do the same, but mine leaks so much the dash has had to come out this week for major remedial action. |

if you have small hands you can do it through the ash tray, that's how I replaced mine with on wiper jets and I don't have small hands

No ash tray on a Puma.
Yes it can be done if you just remove the centre panel, I have done it twice in this way now. |

Good effort that chap! I’ve read through loads of these threads and couldn’t find a nugget of wisdom like that post. Makes it look really easy now. I’ll maybe take some pics and upload them. Thanks folks 👍 |

Leaky, make sure you really need to do this. The washer jet comes in two parts, the threaded part attached to the bulkhead and the actual jets themselves which just push on (very firmly, or a tap with a rubber hammer) and clip into place .
If you're lucky you may just be able to push on the new jet part? 2.2 90 XS 88" Series One Old Norton Minerva |

Sorry just noticed this was in the TDCI section not the TD5 one... normally my "new post" button filters it out |

Hi Leaky
you could save yourself a lot of time by doing the following - similar to Natlas' post above - Get a washer jet from Paddock spares -they're about a fiver - while holding the thread and nut end with a pliers wiggle the jet moulding gently until it pops off the pipe - apply some bog standard superglue to the the pipe that is sticking out of your bulk head and immediately push the new washer moulding on using as much pressure as you can. There's a thread on this somewhere here as its a common issue. I bought 2 of them just in case and two years later I'm still on the first Paddocks cheapie ! Its a pig to get the washer jet aim just right but once set it stays. Job done . |

I tried to pull my old one off, it just snapped off the thread.
It only takes about 10 min to pop out the radio and centre part of the dash, along with the small metal radio support behind it. |

Do a google search for part number DNJ500270 - the front jet part is available all by itself.
It'll save you a whole load of grief... https://www.landroverworkshop.com/parts/DNJ500270 Dave Green Goddess - 1998 Defender 110 300tdi |

Last time I checked the front part of the jet was very substantially more expensive than the complete jet, leading me to conclude that you're paying for a complete jet and someone's time to pull it apart and repackage half of it. It makes no sense!

Until you try and get it apart yourself and then wreck it... and it’s far easier than opening up the dash. I agree it’s wxpensive though... Dave

Surely the same applies to the blocked one already fitted to your car that you're going to replace. You could buy the 'repair' part, snap the threaded part on the car, then have to go back and buy the complete unit anyway. Unless you've gone for a big Double din install, it's no effort at all to pop the centre dash fascia out. |

It's just an option available to the OP who said that the jet popped apart in the cold weather meaning that it probably froze - that seems like quite a common failure mode.
