Good to be getting back into a Defender, hopefully I'll keep this one a little longer. Its being delivered tomorrow from Belfast
https://www.charleshurstgroup.co.uk/land-r...-tdci-2.2/ I'll be using this thread to detail the changes I'll be making, first on the list being upgrading the security |

That looks like a smart un-molested example at a sensible price - well done you!

The price was reasonable in todays market, although be interesting to see the reaction to the current prices if a new defender is announced in a week. The way I look at it, worse case scenario if it costs me £5k/year in depreciation over 3 years I'll be happy, I was taking delivery of a RRS two weeks ago until it developed an electrical fault, that was costing me ~£12K/year in depreciation, plus I get to tinker with this one, the RRS was definite no tinkering.
Talking of tinkering, the plan is 1. Security (I wont list what for obvious reasons, but it will be a lot) 2. Sound proofing. 2mm silent coat, 6mm isolator everywhere 3. LED (headlights, side lights, indicators, internal) 4. ICE (double din, reverse camera) 5. Corbeau front seats and cubby (Premium will be up for sale) 6. To "KBX" or not (don't want KBX grille, want Zunsport but might use the headlight surrounds or might just paint mine black) 7. Wheels (Sawtooth/Modular/Beadlock ....undecided) 8. Panoramic Glass to improve visibility |

Your tinkering plans look good - regarding wheels and from experience - the standard turning circle roughly matches that of a supertanker so it's worth considering a better offset (-10 gives roughly a 2" wider track) and adjusting the steering stops to suit.

Cheers but I've already ordered the Corbeaus, can I ask why you are getting rid of them, everything I have read says they are better. The premiums will be up for sale as soon as the new Corbeaus are fitted, probably soon time next week.

Well its arrived and unsurprisingly it has some of the" features" Defender owners have come to cherish
1. Corrosion - Window hinges are badly corroded on both sides, frame around front screen has bubbles too 2. Leaks - Floor is soaking under rubber matting The corrosion should be sorted under warranty with it being a 63 plate, registered in late 2013 Leaks should be covered under extended LR warranty. Still a great looking car and Belfast LR have been great, let the tinkering begin |

How about a reg number appropriate for when it was built - commemorating the 65th anniversary?
I like the subtle ones that only true Defender owners appreciate. LR63 LXV? I have this on retention, but I probably won't get the correct age vehicle for it now. |

The downside to Corbeau's is they don't have removable bases so you can't get to seat boxes without unbolting the whole seat. They are a pain by not having removable bases, not that good a seat to be honest there are much better on the market. 2015 HT XS 90
