Moving to Ottawa this summer in late July with our 2010 xc90 and 2003 110 from the Netherlands.
Anyone recommend a good place to conduct a safety check ( mainly for the Defender) prior to registering them in Ottawa? Cheers Patrick |

Will the 2010 be allowed in? Do they not have the same rules as the US? Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

it's different than the US 25 year rule. We have a 15 year import rule (so currently up to 2003 is admissible).
There are a few "suspect" vehicles around that are newer, and have had VIN swaps done .Well, anyone that knows anything about Defenders can easily pick them out. Patrick, you may want to contact Ottawa Valley Landrovers Club https://ovlr.myshopify.com they could probably help point you to a shop that could help. it's a Landrover thing... my renovation thread: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic40792.html |

Thanks all gents.
Will investigate the suggestions. I am actually Canadian RCAF with NATO and returning home to Canada after 3 years in the Netherlands. The XC90 is a Canadian Spec that I shipped over here, so no admissability issues. The Defender was bought especially to be 15 years old before I returned to Canada, so that should not be a problem either. The military will ship both home in a container right to my house in Ottawa. I hope to drive them around for a bit on Dutch plates until I can get the safety checks done. Having been a Volvo and jaguar guy i know a number of shops will not work on older jaguars and land rovers due to specialty issues with lockwire and shims, so was looking for someone who will know defenders and provide the necessary safety certificates. Thanks!
No issues as the above post was from 3 years ago. Still driving my Defender as a daily..... Deployed to Halifax for the next two years without all my tools and garage, so may need someone there if anyone knows of any defender knowledgeable garages. Patrick |
