It is an e-bike with assistance until 45kph. Here in Switzerland (same in France) e-bikes with the motor assisting above 25kph are considered to be mopeds, hence the number plate. It also allows the authorities to levy annual road tax of course.

Almost mid October and still living the tail end of a prolonged Indian summer with daily 20°C up here on our mountain. But things will change, today they were planting the orange roadside marking sticks everywhere along both sides of the roads for when we will get snow. So, a bit early maybe, but about time for the winter boots. As my original Nokian LT now are 8 years old, still with about 9mm thread, and now that we really live on an altitude, I decided to replace all by a fresh set of LT2. One thing is for sure already, the newer Nokian LT2 is much quieter that the previous LT version. No rolling noise whatsoever actually. Few pictures below. In a few weeks from now a Dinitrol respray by LEU in Biel-Benken near Basel and we will be fully ready for winter.

It is that time of the year once again. The town has just planted the orange snow height marking sticks again at the sides of the road which is a telltale sign of things to come, so it was time to visit Pneus Claude again and get the winter boots on. The known ritual, ceramic grease, machine wash the wheels (brand new machine) especially to get the brake pad dust off the inside of the Wolf wheels, torque the steels to 170 Nm, and pressure the Nokia’s to 2.5 bar front and 3.3 bar rear. To rebalance the wheels they also leave the original weights on, but rebalance and then add stick on black painted weights as required. Balancing was easy, they never had to add more than 10 to 30 gram on either side. Pictures speak for themselves.

Wondering why 36psi (2.5 bar) in the fronts when the factory spec is 30psi (2.0 bar)? Dave

No, wheels/tires always get rebalanced here when putting them back on after 6 months storage. Standard procedure, nothing to do with the washing machine as they first get balanced, then washed. A perfectly balanced wheel/tire combo being used will gradually use its balance with usage, hence...

I run front 2.2 in summer. Winter tires usually need 0.2 bar more, so asked to put 2.5 which at home finetuned down to 2.4. Eric You never actually own a Defender. Hi Eric,
Your car is looking as good as ever. I went through the entire thread and see that in an earlier post you mentioned you lowered the rear tyre pressure to 2.8, on another post it was 2.9 because you said you found the Land Rover recommended tyre pressures of 3.3 gave a harsh ride, yet now I notice you're back to 3.3 at the rear! Any reason for this? Uneven tyre wear with lower pressures or any other reason why you suddenly changed back to a higher rear tyre pressure? I'm asking because I'm also finding the ride to be harsh with the recommended tyre pressures at the rear, my dealer advised me against lowering pressures, he said not to go any lower than 3 at the rear. Mine's a MY16 110 SE. Another question while I'm at it, I have Goodyear Wrangler MT/R, they're M+S rated, do you think I should change tyre to go on a skiing trip in the Alps? Thanks in advance for your reply. |
