Biggest Tyre’s on boost alloys
Hi

What’s the biggest size tyres you can fit in standard boost wheels?
I want them to look wider

In practical terms 285/75x16 is the largest tyre you can safely run on Boosts, although the Fun Police will probably pop up in a minute with dire predictions of doom.

A Boost rim is narrower than the minimum specified by most tyre manufacturers for this size, but there are many people who have run this combination without any problems for years. The Fun Police will usually at this point mention insurance and predict loss of cover.

You will find that you probably need 30mm spacers with this combination since, unless you only want to orbit small planets, you will find that the turning circle becomes tricky. Mention spacers however and the Fun Police have to lie down for a while in a Dark Place.

Provided however that you insurer is ok with it, you can run 285s on Boosts with 30mm spacers with no problems other than the dirt you'll get all over the sides.

265/75x16 was a standard factory-fitted size for some vehicles and you should have no issues. This size should work OK without spacers, won't throw as much crud up the sides of the vehicle, and (being a factory-fitted size) should not cause any insurance issues. Even the Fun Police can sleep on!

Provided that this size satisfies your cosmetic requirement (and they look good, filling the arches nicely), it is a good and popular choice, with a wide range of different tyres available.

I went from 235 to 265 on the old TD5.

Found the loss of steering lock in car parks a bit limiting so added spacers... Then I discovered how much crud gets plastered over the sides when off roading!

Would I do it again, probably not, but 265 BFG AT on spacers did look good.

Very true!

I ran 265s with spacers and dirt defenders. Found that spatter up the sides was not too bad Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

^^ Nothing, it's a great size although the choice of tyres is limited.

However the OP initially asked "what's the biggest size" and 285/75 is bigger than 255/85, then asked "can 265/75 be fitted", to which the answer is "yes".

I had 255/85 MTs on my boosts for 2 years, but a MT tyre is not suitable for my driving any more. I wanted to replace it with a 33" tyre, so I went to 285/75. I was surprised that the 285/75 is only 270mm wide! Mounted!

255s are actually a tad taller than 285s so will be having more of an effect on your speedo than 285s.

when I was running 285s I measured the speedo against the GPS and it was almost bang on accurate.

Same with mine so there must be a very very small difference there, in fact it’s more accurate than the 235’s I had were which underread about 1 - 2mph.

I’m sure Blackwolf will back me up on this one, as this was a concern I had originally but they are perfect.

285/75 -> 100km on speedo = 102km GPS -> 2% difference for distance
The difference in speed is not noticeable. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR
