Hi guys,
Just a reminder to put Puma specific topics in this forum - and if it's not about the Puma engine/gearbox/interior then post up in one of the main forums (General, Technical or Maintenance & Mods). Thanks Martin |

Puma Heavy clutch solved.
Hi again guys hope your all still loving being the owner of a Defender. Just thought I would post this as for sure someone like myself is suffering from screwed knees, I bought my lovely 2007 Puma county 90 about a year ago and ever since have suffered badly with a screaming right knee when driving my girl in town and traffic, it got so bad I was on the verge of having to let my darling go as my wife got fed up with the swearing when in traffic. In desperation I looked on this forum and read as much as possible on the net in the hope that someone had modified the clutch to lighten the pedal, low and behold I came across someone had had fitted the Red Booster servo, after speaking with the company and Rod the owner ( Very helpful guy) I bit the bullet and ordered one. Well what a difference guys!!!! my knee has stopped screaming at me and my wife now enjoys the ride, the swear box which was filling rapidly has not had a donation for months, the clutch is so light now a child could operate it, I did have to have some fine tuning for bite point but would never ever want to go back to pre servo days. It did take me a few days to get used to it but very soon I was loving driving my girl, I would reccomend to anyone to have one of these as what a difference and it was a pleasure dealing with Rod the owner of Red Booster, not only a gentleman but will to help out at every step of the way. Happy Ole Big Dave |

I don't know about you but I find it easier to use my left leg on the clutch! Seriously though, I'm glad you've found a solution! I found that simply lubricating the pedal pivots (under the little cover in the engine bay) made a very significant difference to the usability of the clutch. |

Hi Blackwolf, well I tried everthing to be honest including a splash of oil on the pivots and that made no difference at all really, ok the conversion was not cheap when you include the fitting, which I had done in a garage owned by a good friend, I could have done it myself had it not been for the fact that I am getting past doing things as my poor old body screams at me in protest. however now knowing how easy it is if you can do simple repairs such as change wheel bearing etc it could be DIY'ed no probs.
The results are spectacular, was a bit tricky when bleeding the system as suddenly the pedal goes rock hard which now tells us that its bled, then when you connect the servo vacuum pipework it goes as light as a feather. The only thing is you have to wait a few moments on starting to get the vacuum built up, I had a habit of leaving my cars in gear with the handbrake off, will never do that again as you cannot get it out of gear as no vacuum, had to rock the car back and fore so not wise to leave it in gear anywhere unless on the flat, that said its a minor point and lesson learnt. Well I found better than using my left leg, get the wife to drive it !! only problem as she is so small and light she had to stand on the clutch pedal which frightened the hell out of me, the downside there were a few crunches from the gearbox during her exotic dance on it. Regards Old Dave |

I also have had my 63 plate - 2.2 / 110 re mapped by the Bell boys at the last years LRO show (while you wait service) I now drive a different vehicle, 5th gear now has a function and also get around an extra 40 / 50 miles out of a full tank so should soon see a return for the investment. All in all a no brainer - if you a bit of spare cash!

Hey Guys,
The rule economy on my 2008 Puma dropped from 24/25 mpg to 16.5-18mpg. I am going crazy trying to figure it out. I have put a rack on but was still getting good economy afterwards. Replaced the MAF and full filter, but no joy. Any ideas? Matt DesertPuma Stationed in KSA 2008 Defender 110 1997 Defender 90 2006 Defender 110 PS 2.8 |

Can anyone inform me whether the lower hinge of the Safari rear door on the TDCi Puma has captive nuts?
If not how does one access the nuts? JLS 'El Pepe Flamenco' |

Hi jlerra, I can't answer your query but you might want to add it as a separate thread under the Puma section with a relevant title to get more attention. James

No captive, but regular nuts. In order to access them you need to be ready for dirty hands, even loose some skin. Access is from underneath the wheel arch into the rear side of the rear cross member. There is some flexible flap (at least with a 110) which makes it even more awkward. But all doable, just lie down under the truck with a flashlight and move the flap some to get a good idea first of where those two knuckle ripping nuts are located. You then can get a spanner on them. A bit of a blind effort, but not a disaster either. Those who have replaced all their mild steel screws by stainless, or me, who first did that, but then decided to revert back to new mild steel, will know this well. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

Hi there,
I've have a 2.4 Puma and absolutely love it! However, have come into some issues and was wondering if I could get some advice/suggestions about what it could be. It's being serviced with some excellent people who are busy trying to diagnose it and I know they'll do a superb job. Although, I'm very impatient and nervous and want to sleep a little better tonight. Essentially the heater has stopped working. It still blows air- just one temperature- despite turning the heater knob in either direction. I wanted to know what is causing this. They've been suggestions of thermostat problems and issues with the head gasket. The latter of these two being particularly scary. I wanted to know what others thought. |

Probably a duff heater valve, or a problem with the cable?
Worth checking before doing anything drastic! 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

I own a 2010 Puma- is it okay to use a £34.99 Argos OBD reader to ever diagnose and switch the check engine light off if appears to be nothing serious. I've learnt with Puma's and defenders more generally, check engine lights have the potential come on now and then.
